When I told my father about this photo and mentioned that it was taken on Scott Town Road, he was nervous that I had been there at night. As everyone who has lived in a small town knows, there is that one neighborhood that is the poster child for bad news. My entire life I passed this street on the school bus and felt like I always wanted to know more, wanted to see why this particular neighborhood was ostracized from the rest. It took me 20 years to go down this street for the first time. As I pulled my camera out to take the photo, that familiar fear crept back in like I was still that 8 year old on the school bus, imagining the evils I had created in my head that lived down Scott Town Road. Turns out that the rumors are more rooted in fear of the poor and disenfranchised. You learn a lot when you confront your fears, especially when the fears were birthed from generational judgement.
