Specimen Card - Fringe Drifters

The Wirecutter is a small worm-like creature that is attracted to light and burrows through things to reach it. The tendrils on the side of its body shoot out air enabling it to "hop" from asteroid to asteroid. It survives on electricity. It has small whiskers on the front of its face that detect electric fields. The whiskers are sensitive enough to detect minor amounts of electricity within an asteroid. When drifters started arriving with their ships, Wirecutters were attracted to the ship"s power and began burrowing into the wires! This disabled many Fringe ships. Some Drifters have taken to using Wirecutters to sabotage competitor ships. One Wirecutter is not a big deal but a group of Wirecutters is very bad! Youve got to kill them quickly or else your ship will shut down before you can say wrangle an asteroid. Turning off all electronics and lights is the best defense against them. They have no self-defenses and are not naturally attracted to humans, but if one makes contact with the skin, its burrowing instinct takes over and youre in for a bad time. Vort and other companies that make electronic devices hire poachers to capture Wirecutters and use them to find sources of electricity on asteroids. They have to be very careful because if a wire cutter gets loose and is attracted to the ship, especially if its in a group, it could be fatal to the people inside. So always wear a spacesuit, even when youre inside your ship.
