The Earthquake Spirit.. in Japanese tradition the Namazu (catfish) was held responsible for earthquakes for centuries creating the myth of a Namazu trapped under the Earth. On the other end of the spectrum it was also regarded as the Yanaoshi Daimyōjin ( god of "world rectification") a sort of social and economical leveller. Most of the riches of the "Whales" of the time were force to spend their wealth into rebuild what was destroyed ending in a wealth redistribution.
