Schmokemon

Dracopic are fast and powerful creatures, though unlike most archetypical dragons they are totally flightless. Their single wing is used primarily as a display and thermoregulation appendage. The vast majority of Dracopic are left-winged, with those rare examples of right-winged creatures being highly-sought after by rich weirdos. They are agile and fierce for their size, posing a real threat to most other Basic-tier Schmryptomon in competitive combat.

#90-Dracopic

The Western interior of Schmryptopia is defined by the Teracoma Sandlands, once famous as the setting for numerous Schpaghetti Westerns, now primarily designated as National Parks and wildlife reserves. The creatures here are hardy and heat-resistant, often favor Rock or Fire typing, and come in a dazzling variety of browns and grays. Though not as flashy as some of their tropical counterparts, they are more popular with stoic, hardworking citizens of Schmryptopia, and they are essential to many industries.

Location Lore #2-The Teracoma Sandlands

Armorilox is unusual for many reasons, not least of which is its incredible density and durability. While few creatures are capable of harming one, they are quite susceptible to getting bogged down in wet or soft terrain due to the great weight of their bio-steel armor plating. When scientists first resurrected the species, they were surprised by how easily tamed they were; they make wonderfully loyal, if somewhat dangerous, companions.

Doctor Hue is, without question, the world's premiere Schmryptologist, and an incredibly capable engineer to boot. It was his invention of the Cryptographic Manifestation process that kick-started the current craze for collecting and battling Schmryptomon, and he is world-renowned for his wisdom and skills. His position as Dean of the Royal Schmryptological Society affords him considerable influence in Schmryptopian society, and he exercises this power to great effect in the promotion of both the study and humane treatment of Schmryptomon. He also has a passion for experimental cinema, being responsible in his earlier days for several important works in that field: A true Renaissance Man.

Schmryptoan #1-Doctor Godfrey R. Hue

When Hydrose first appeared in was a complete shock to researchers. Questions still abound as to exactly what they are, but the most popular theory is that they are some sort of self-replicating data stream. Their distinctive skin pattern has been the subject of much debate, but it"s known that their surface is quite tough and malleable. More research is needed to understand what we"re dealing with here.

Lishy are never seen during the day; everything about their physiology is perfectly adapted to hunt small prey on even a moonless night. They use their powerful magical abilities to manifest two clouds of energy that they use like tentacles, enrobing prey before going in for the kill. Despite their fearsome reputation they are surprisingly affectionate companions, though they are best kept by trainers who are themselves nocturnal lest they keep each other up at all hours.

In order to help Schmucks overcome their crippling self-esteem issues, a therapeutic program was devised by the Royal Schmryptological Society to help encourage introspection and emotional growth. The results have been very positive, and participating Schmucks are now able to remove their flippers in public, and would like to be known by the less insulting name Chuck.

#72-Chuck

In order to help Schmucks overcome their crippling self-esteem issues, a surgical solution was devised by the Schmryptopian Medical Association to replace Schmuck"s human feet with those of a duck. It turns out that their self-esteem problems were the only thing containing their militaristic impulses and now the world must deal with a bunch of little avian Napoleons.

#73-Generalissimo

In order to help Schmucks overcome their crippling self-esteem issues, a highly experimental recombinant DNA treatment was devised by the Schmryptoburg United Chemical Corporation to replace important sequences of genetic code with those of a duck. The results are frankly horrifying, but they do seem much more confident!

#74-Schmuckus

Though now confined to paleontology reserves, Saberclaws are incredibly aggressive hunters, capable of taking down prey many times their size. Between their hooked claws and saber fangs, they are next to impossible to dislodge once they"ve engaged. Ancient cave paintings depict them as terrifying monsters, despite their relatively small size. In the modern day they are popular companions for risk-seeking A-listers.

#47-Saberclaw

FuzzFoot are intriguing creatures; few wild Schmryptomon have been observed with such powerful telekinesis, and none use it in such a seemingly benign way. As they move through liminal edges of the Gaia Forest they slowly accumulate any bit of discarded human ephemera that catches their eyes, until eventually they are trailed by a cloud of debris bigger than themselves. When attacked they will pelt their attackers while making their escape. Though they typically resemble a small fox-like creature, their forms are quite malleable, perhaps as a byproduct of their telekinetic powers.

#160-FuzzFoot

Majestowl are remarkably intelligent creatures, capable of articulate speech, strategy, and complex mechanical tasks. They make the best chess players in the world, and it wasn"t until several years after humans had been bested by machines that their best player was defeated. As companions they can be somewhat aloof, but they are fiercely loyal to the one who raised them. In several instances they have been awarded citizenship, and there is a growing movement to grant them, and other hyper-intelligent Mon, full civil rights.

#82-Majestowl

Upon maturing, Dewashell undergo one of the most dramatic transformations know to Schmryptology, shedding their shells and morphing into a porpoise-like form of great speed and agility. Known for their strong familial bonds and epic migrations, Seevolite is a popular symbol of loyalty and endurance. Many sailors report having been rescued by them in coastal waters, some even clinging to them for hours as they make their way to shore.

#20-Seevolite

Scientists still aren"t certain how some rock-types like Rumblecalf achieve their tough-but-flexible mineralized hides. Their remarkably durable skin makes them impervious to many similarly-sized mon, though they are shockingly heavy for their size and thus quite slow. They are very affectionate when young, though trainers must be very careful that they don"t get their fingers or toes crushed when interacting with them.

Between its tough shell and potent toxic defenses, the Pachypillar is much more dangerous than its size and adorable face might suggest. While they are friendly herbivores, it"s surprisingly easy to accidentally tread on one while exploring the Gaia Forest. They are technically enormous Schmryptozoa, more closely related to Promethiads than they are to most other macroscopic Schmryptomon.

#150-Pachypillar

There"s a very good reason that every settlement in the Teracoma Sandlands clings to the rocky mesas that jut from the dunes periodically, a beast so fearsome that the very desert itself was named as a warning. Mighty Teracoma moves beneath the sand as though through water, bursting forth to consume anything non-native that wanders into its vast territory. As a result, the interior of the desert was only explored and settled with the invention of aircraft, and even now human life is rare and difficult to maintain. Only the master trainer Joey Donuts was ever able to tame Teracoma, and as a result he commands immense respect from the inhabitants of that arid expanse.

#171-Teracoma

Tweetheart are among the smaller Schmryptomon; delicate and quick, they are not especially popular in combat, but as companions they are treasured for their song and energy. In the wild they often congregate in large flocks numbering in the thousands and in agricultural areas they were once thought of as a pest, though they are now known to eat insects that are themselves pests. They are also sometimes referred to as Finches, after the master trainer who first described them in the scientific literature.

#50-Tweetheart

Cochleograde are significantly larger than Pachypillar, though they still fit comfortably in a child"s hand. What they lack in size they make up for with potent poisons directed towards targets via their flexible pseudo-proboscis. Unlike their Basic form, they are omnivores who hunt very small prey which they stun with their toxins. In tiny doses these toxins are a powerful narcotic, though the line between euphoria and death is razor thin so users are few and far between.
