"Invisibles" is a collection of generative art that takes you on a journey through fantastical cities and unreal architecture. Infused with a sense of imagination and wonder, aspires to be a visual joy and dream-like in its heart.

Inspired by the novel "The Invisible Cities" (Italo Calvino), a book with algorithmic qualities, this work incorporates several themes and concepts, from exploring new ideas, lands, and cultures to the interplay between reality and fiction. Like the book"s exploration of Venice, the pieces in "Invisibles" are rooted in the essence of Hong Kong, a city the creator called home for nine years.

Each piece in this series captures the spirit of a different city, creating a beautiful and intricate mosaic of shapes, and patterns. The detailed engravings of architecture from the 18th and 19th centuries influenced its visual style while exploring the conceptual connection between engravings and code as a generation source.

This collection is plottable and aims to transcend the digital realm becoming tangible as an added dimension to the artwork beyond digital printing. Bringing the generative drawing into the physical world while turning plotting into the equivalent of 21st-century engraving.

The works in this series were created using a glitching algorithm that processes images generated with SG2 and SG3 models trained on personal datasets, resulting in unique and unpredictable artworks that reflect the beauty and fragility of our digital world. With its vivid use of digitally intrinsic hues and playful approach to glitches and dithering, the dynamic non-representational compositions evoke a sense of nostalgia for the stylistic and technological hallmarks of my upbringing in the 90s.

With its vivid use of digitally intrinsic hues and playful approach to glitches and dithering, the dynamic non-representational compositions evoke a sense of nostalgia for the stylistic and technological hallmarks of my upbringing in the 90s. 

Informed by Andreas Huyssen"s concept of *Nostalgia for Ruins*, THX-1 reflects on themes of memory, loss, and the human desire to preserve and hold onto the remnants of our past. A poignant examination of the intersection of art, technology, and culture.
 
When all is said and done, THX-1 exists because it makes me happy

Hello Modulo by Nat Sarkissian

My intention with this piece was to create something that looked simultaneously human and computerized.

The human element is the hand drawn style. The movement of the strokes, the variance of the density of the simulated particles of color, and inaccuracy of the grid are a few of the things I worked with to make this feel as though a human drew it.

The computerized element is the complexity and intricacy of the patterns. As each grid cell is created, its color is determined by taking the index of the cell, which has various definitions in this code, modulo some other number.

Modulo is not a difficult operator to understand (it simply returns the remainder of a division), but it is not typically taught amongst the four basic operators, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Because of that, it"s typically not intuitive.

As I developed this work, it felt oddly like building a relationship with modulo. It kept surprising me with complex and unpredictable patterns. I introduced it to more familiar concepts like noise, and trigonometric functions, and continued to see new patterns.

My hope is that you will see a little bit of modulo"s personality in this work, and consider getting to know this awkward fifth wheel of the arithmetic operators.

Particle systems have always held a special place in my heart. The inherent simplicity of each particle and the complexity of what emerges is a theme I have always enjoyed exploring. \
With *Drift*, I continue this exploration and delve deeper into the intricacies of one such system, to see what emotions it can evoke. 


To export a PNG, I recommend adding a size parameter to the query string, such as &size=4000 to define the longer size, and then pressing "s" after the rendering is complete. Also, please check the console for rendering and saving information.


The piece is computationally expensive and requires an adequate GPU.

It is important to understand that due to the complexity of the simulation, the result may look different across different devices. This variation is primarily due to the different capabilities of each device"s GPU. Therefore, the uniqueness of each viewing experience is not only a product of the hash but also the inherent unpredictability and variation in hardware capabilities. Please be mindful of this while enjoying *Drift*.

Prepare a rectangular or square canvas. Pick one or two sets of pigments. Plot one or two fields of slightly irregular dots, with one layer for each pigment. Offset each layer slightly, horizontally or vertically. Apply a level of randomness to the placement of each dot so that pigments in lower layers can obscure pigments in higher layers. Optionally, divide and displace the randomness in rectangular patches.

Click on press the image and press 1-5 to export the image in increasing resolution. Note that browsers have different upper limits for canvas size. There are five different aspect ratios: 1:1, 5:8, 8:5, 1:2, and 2:1.
