It becomes from questioning and thin the veil between the worlds defined by modern Western culture as rigid and opposite concepts. A coming and going from tangible to ethereal, between live and death, invisible and visible, nature and technology, ocean and earth, chaos and logic.

Part of the wider _Artificial Botany_ (2019) series, the _Unseen Flora_ collection shines a spotlight on the fantastical and surreal botanical illustrations created by four British scientists and artists: Charlotte Bancroft, Beatrice Hastings, Edmund Thorne and Theodore Winslow.
The collection has as its focus the concept of truth, contextualised in the contemporary digital age where the boundaries between real and virtual, natural and artificial, seem to become more and more obscure. Especially after the sudden influx of innovative technologies led by AI language models and image generation systems, the notion of truth has become even more arbitrary, always hidden behind a thin veil of plausibility and verisimilitude.  

_Unseen Flora_ stands at the interplay between these areas: the collection wants to explore unreal but plausible histories through the visual depictions of the four illustrators, offering us an unprecedented glimpse into their imaginary botanical dimensions.

"Esqueje" is the Spanish equivalent of cutting or clone. This consists of a fragment of stem cut from a plant and introduced into the ground so that it can take root with the intention of reproducing it, thus generating new clones.

"Esquejes" is a generative system resulting from algorithmic gardening, which seeks to push the uniqueness of each pixel to the limit. "Esquejes" generates interesting shapes and textures using several layers of shaders. In this way, the work seeks to make each pixel different from its neighbor and not lose its individuality in the universe of synthetic images. Because if there are infinite numbers, there are infinite colors.

sunflower/empathy

This image was created as part of my AI study of feminine archetypes, highlighting empathy that connects us with the collective pain of the world and compassion that motivates us to act and help, to extend kindness, aid, or understanding.

Any proceeds will go to help people in Ukraine, where I will be returning in July to deliver more aid.



The theme of this work is fireworks and festivals, which symbolizes summer in Japan.

With fireworks as the central theme, it consists of the water surface reflecting the fireworks, the city lights in the distance, the silhouettes of the torii gates and arch bridge, and the twinkling lanterns. The shady black background expresses the smoky atmosphere.

The drawing algorithm of the work is inspired by traditional woodblock prints and contemporary scratch art. Base layer is drawn with pale watercolor-like gradation. On top of that, the shady black background is drawn. Then, the outline of the fireworks is carved out.

The color of fireworks is based on a chemical reaction called a flame reaction. The color palette of this work is also composed of typical flame reaction colors or their mixtures. Each color palette is inspired by the four seasons in Japan.

paracosm: noun. An intricate imaginary world born in childhood. Often begun as a subconscious escape from traumatic experience, the child forms deep connections with the paracosm, including complex relationships with its characters and settings that shape the creator's personality as they age. Existing with its own unique geography and lore, this world grows more sophisticated with time, potentially enduring into adulthood.

If one is invited into a paracosm by its creator, it will often come in pieces. Their world is secret and sacred, as deeply personal as the innermost self. Sharing it with another makes them forever part of that world, and by proxy, forever part of its creator.

This collection is a visualization of part of the artist's paracosm. A text-to-image model was trained on some of their memories of that world and its inhabitants. Each piece at mint will be cropped, with the intention of serving as a window to look inside. After the exhibition completes, collectors pieces will fully reveal, rich in narrative detail and sentiment. In this way, the artist is inviting you, step by step, into their world--and by proxy, to become forever part of it.
