SITE of WEBS is a generative artwork using 4 chambers of multifaceted properties. The work was created on a tropical island as a collaboration between a visual artist and an aerospace engineer.  The script invokes patterns and networks - simultaneously biological and technological - with both diffusive and concentrated qualities embodied by smoke, clouds, vapor, and human migratory patterns. Spiderwebs and people moving through the city or across greater expanses of time and space leave invisible tracks which form intricate networks with self-discovering moments of density and sparsity.   The script is a deliberately written instrument where each mint generates and makes visual these organic processes of intricate patterning which emerge from the seed of intentionality.

Jessica Hang (b. 1991 Chinatown, Los Angeles) is an artist living and working in Taiwan. She has exhibited her works internationally and is the recipient of multiple honors and awards. She has a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Southern California and is a co-director of the artist-run space Mother Culture.

Did you know that the first known internet meme dates back to 1993? The "Mauve Shirt Guy" photo of a man wearing a purple shirt at a tech conference was captioned and shared online, starting the trend of internet memes. Tech and memes have been intertwined since the beginning of time. 

Meme culture and the art movements of expressionism and neo- expressionism share many parallels in their approach to creative expression. Both meme culture and expressionism focus on the use of bold, emotive imagery and a disregard for traditional artistic conventions, while neo-expressionism takes this approach a step further by incorporating elements of modern technology and popular culture. These art movements all reject the idea of objective reality and instead focus on the subjective experiences of the artist and the viewer, creating a sense of relatability and immediacy in their work. This emphasis on personal expression and the blurring of boundaries between high and low art is a defining characteristic of modern art, and can be seen as a continuation of the themes and techniques pioneered by these art movements.
