Yo guys my name is SLOE JACK! Im stoked to be back on Sound for the release of my third single, Renegade. 

"Renegade" is about being cheated on and the way it throws your mind off course. The memory of that humiliating moment lingers in the back of your head. It rings in your ears and it leaves you exhausted. Your ex thinks that what they did was justified, but youre not having it.

When I wrote this song I wanted it to feel ruthless, nasty and in-your-face. Since the theme comes from a place of hurt and rage I aimed to reflect that as well as I could sonically. 

I would like to thank Sound.xyz for giving me this opportunity. This platform is a serious game-changer for artists of all sizes!

Renegade #5

My name is SLOE JACK. Im a nineteen-year-old punk/pop artist from Melbourne, Australia.

My debut track, Number, outlines heartbreak, betrayal and how difficult it can be to trust someone after being stabbed in the back. Meeting people after a bad relationship is basically just red flag hunting, a search for reasons to flee the scene to defend yourself from previous traumas. When I wrote this song I wanted the lyrics to be blatant and honest. Were talking about straight-up relationship anxiety here, so why not lay it out bare.

All I used to listen to as a kid was dubstep. As a result of listening to straight square waves for my entire childhood, I have an instinctual and inhuman urge to distort every sound I throw at my track, no matter the genre. People ask me, how do I achieve the SLOE JACK sound? All you gotta do is disregard all production standards and get weird.

Big thanks to the Sound team for giving me this opportunity and to Dreams Never Die for releasing my debut track! I feel so fortunate to be involved in the first season of Sound and I will never forget this moment.

Temporary is a song that has moved beyond what I originally intended, becoming an experiment of sorts--a song that takes limitless forms and exists in different worlds, allowing the music become a living, breathing entity, forever in flux. Temporary 001 is one of many versions of this song that you will hear. Every iteration of the production (and there are many) will push us further into new territory--working, reworking, and pressing us to be present and settled into the unknown. I hope this experiment allows you to see this song from a new angle.

Breaking The Cycle

Releasing this song feels like a necessary detour. I try my best to be as vulnerable as possible in my music but this was something I didnt know how to say even though I knew it was necessary. I am many things. A man, a son, a brother, a friend, a musician. But above all else I am a father. That is my ultimate purpose. To lead by example for my sons. To teach them how to maneuver in a world not inherently designed for them to win. To break the cycle.

My journey throughout Web 3 thus far has been a time of affirmation (shoutout to Scolla.) Its been a time of growth, learning, and healing. Its been a time of not always doing the easiest (or most politically correct) thing, but having faith that it is the right thing as I continue forward.

I feel like Im at the crossroad of stepping into my future and healing from my past, all while remaining present. I am working through my struggles in realtime - through music - and I hope that anyone who reads this understands that I am not defined by my circumstances, and neither are you. This has been a season that I feel is coming to a close. So although I am excited to share this piece of my story with you, I am equally as excited to have you with me as the rest of the story unfolds.

One thing that Web 3 has taught me is to better vocalize my needs. To not be afraid to say that I am not ok, or that I need help because we are not meant to walk alone.

I have been dealing with a traumatic situation involving my children and my family and I am thankful that I have the love and support to be able to say that I need help as I give this offering. I called this a necessary detour because thats exactly how it feels. Like stopping for gas on a road trip. Knowing that this path is meant for me but that I had to take a second to address my needs and decompress before driving again.

So to anyone reading this, thank you for supporting me. Thank you for continuing to uplift me and remind me of my worth in the times when I may forget. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to support my family by doing something I love. And thank you for helping me break the cycle.

"this whole time, i've been the one i needed."

i remember struggling as an independent artist in web2, wishing someone would extend an olive branch and save me. i remember thinking that the help i needed was outside of myself. i remember almost giving up, deciding to push forward instead, and pulling myself out of a depression.

like malanda says in the poem in the outro, "people will only see the peak of a mountain." but there were lows we all fought to arrive where we are today. and for every low, i need you to turn this shit up LOUD and go 10x as hard after every win. i want you to be prouda you, 'cause you could've stayed down but chose to press on instead.

i'm prouda me. i'm proud i kept going. i'm thankful for web3 for giving me a chance to have the music career i always knew i deserved. i appreciate david for believing in me and trusting that i was the perfect person for my position here at sound to help support so many amazing artists. i'm grateful for new community and life-changing experiences. i'm humbled by God's grace.

but i'm also prouda you. because you kept going too. that's why every holder of this NFT will receive access to my token-gated tellie page where you can access unreleased music, and one of those unreleased tracks will be "prouda you!" because i am!
