Crypto oy is a wake-up call for all the chart-watchers, candle-counters, and JPEG-flippers that find a way to bring crypto into any conversation, no matter what its about.

We all know them  checking OpenSea like its instagram, obsessing over prices, hodling this, shorting that and unable to focus on anything except Discord.

As exciting as crypto is, and as likely as it is to revolutionize finance in the coming years, I want to shift our attention to a very urgent issue, which is the possibility of SCOTUS overturning Roe v Wade. This attack on reproductive rights is something we should be talking about as loudly as a crypto boy talks about NFTs*. Its imperative that we band together and fight to protect our fundamental rights. To help bring this together I partnered with Nadya Tolokonnikova of Pussy Riot, who I love and respect, to create the custom art for this NFT.

100% of the proceeds of the sale of this NFT will be donated to The Center for Reproductive Rights (https://reproductiverights.org), a legal nonprofit that is able to accept donations in cryptocurrency.

"Light Show" is a song that accurately represents myself as a creative. It started out as most of my songs do, and that is with me tinkering around in Ableton. When I build something from scratch, often I cant contain myself and end up writing the lyrics when the production is only around 50% completed. Not surprisingly this song fell into that category and was written in just under 30 minutes. It"s fully written and produced by me.

I went a bit more aggressive on the lyrical content while adding pretty melodic moments to offset the seriousness of the song. "Light Show" is best played when you need a confidence boost. I detail times where I"ve let grudges slide and took the highroad, and also reflect on the fact that putting my pain out in the open is what"s allowed me to grow and reach levels of success as an artist. It"s 100% accurate when I state "I spent hard earned cash just to keep this up, I spent blood sweat and tears just to keep this going". 

This song is a window into my life, and I hope you can use this shit as a tool to let loose and rage.

I met DEEGAN my first week living in Los Angeles. I was at a show watching a friend perform when I got a tap on the shoulder - I thought I was going to run into one of my other friends who recently moved cross country with me but instead I was greeted by a total stranger. He introduced himself and I immediately recognized him after having worked with his cousin months prior.

The next day I did a deep dive on his catalog and invited him over to my place for a session. I remember being blown away by the weird noises he could produce with just his voice alone. I realized he was the type of creative that wouldn"t try to structure out the perfect song - he would let me do whatever I wanted to do. And creatively that"s exactly what I needed. 

Over the years DEEGAN and I have worked on so many records together. From our early days making bleeps and bloops on my computer to his 2 features on Overstimulated, to the writing camp I put together in Malibu, DEEGAN has consistently been one of my favorite people to work with - not only for his musical abilities - but for his undeniable personality that lights up every room he"s in. 

Bittersweet is a record that I started on last summer and sent to DEEGAN at the end of last year. When I was looking for a song to drop on Sound, I came across this topline but the production felt outdated. I ended up manically sitting with it for 72 hours and this is the result that came out. It"s a preview of my new direction sonically.

This song is about the mixed emotions one feels after a breakup: The happiness of not having to deal with their toxic behavior anymore, and the sadness in losing all of the good parts about them.

Over the last 30 years, as I made my way through my career, I came to a realization. I always made my music for my fans. But they never got a chance to be a part of it. They only watched the Dogg from afar.

With music NFTs, this completely changes the game. I am able to release tracks and have my fans buy them but now can make money off of them too.  I wouldnt be here without these people and they deserve to take more control in this industry. Now is the time.

I hustle 4 myself and my family. When I put something out, just know I gave it my all because thats all I know how to do.

Soulection+ Radio: Untitled 001 is our GENESIS Web3 radio show, brought to you in partnership with Sound. After over a decade of using our Soulection Radio platform to share & support the music we love, we are excited to finally be able to break bread with artists on a mix - and share the earnings from the project in real time! 

This Soulection+ Radio mix features all of our great artists who have been essential to the Soulection legacy over the past 11 years. Many of the artists on this mix have never released anything on Web3. We truly appreciate their trust and willingness to experiment with us. Part of our goal as an entity is to make it easy for the creatives we support to comfortably explore how art & music can intertwine with blockchain technologies, and carve a lane for themselves to travel forward independently as they see fit. 

This radio show is curated and mixed by Joe Kay, the recording is approximately 62 minutes, and contains unreleased gems from our closest friends and family.
