Machine Dreams is an exploration of how colors impact us, expressed with a diffused effect that displays Dean Blaccs technical mastery of generative watercolor.

Within color theory, certain colors are believed to generally evoke similar emotional responses. German poet Wolfgang Johann von Goethe inscribed human-understandable descriptions into the color wheel, connecting psychology and color in a framework that continues to resonate today in art, philosophy, media, and design. 

Dean Blacc rebuilds colors from the wheel as abstract watercolor fields, and overlays them with an almost runic script, quick scribbles or annotations, similar to an artists private notes. Machine Dreams is an elegant, minimalist work that speaks to the colors intended reaction through gentle and ephemeral forms, keeping our conscious grasp of the explanation just barely out of our reach.

Watercolor through computer code is a challenging endeavor, modeling how water spreads over paper, gravity and the angle of the easel, the water content of the brush, and the viscosity of the paper itself. Inspired by the color tests of 19th century painter Joseph William Turner, Dean Blacc explores modernist abstract color explorations and showcases technical mastery through understated simplicity.

Machine Dreams blends the purity of color exploration with the ephemeral nature of watercolor, calling our attention to the meaning behind an artists choice of color and the impact of the medium on which they choose to present their work.

**Avalon is a series of generative maps to imaginary places.** 

Visually inspired by vintage textbooks and map collections, Avalon takes a purely aesthetical perspective on the land drop hype and the mythical realm that is the metaverse. 

The practice of mapping the imaginary reaches back to the middle ages and has been particularly popular in the renaissance era. It has always been used as tool to visualize allegories and manifest a sense of longing. In that sense, Avalon can be interpreted as a visualization of a machines wanderlust.

The series is named after the place where, according to legend, King Arthur is buried. Avalon is referred to in literary sources as an island, valley or field.

**Avalon is a dynamic collection.** Each map is positioned on a virtual globe and will go through 12.5 hour tidal cycles based on a virtual moon orbit. Maps will update every two minutes and to reflect the changing tides. 

Map labels show some basic information about each map. They include the map coordinates, maximum elevation and maximum sea depth, a topographic profile of the map and an indication of the current tidal level.

**Avalon is interactive.** Collectors can interact with and customize their maps by using a series of commands that will change some of the basic visual traits of their maps. Maps can be downloaded both as high and low resolution images directly from the art blocks preview.

**Basic commands:**
s - save image
i - toggle label on or off
m - switch between colored and monochrome versions
h - render high resolution image
"r" - refresh image in its original state

I studied architecture in Stuttgart. Max Bense lectured in what was then known as the Studium Generale. I don"t believe something like that exists anymore. People from all kinds of faculties gathered there. It was really exciting. There were no exams like in statics, building law, design, and so on. It was about questions concerning the art form of concrete poetry, which was fashionable at the time, about the types of language that might be used there, and about the more general question of when something is art. When does something stop being art?

Bense"s answer, very briefly: Avoid the term art altogether. The term art is far too loaded, Bense said. Therefore, introduce the term "aesthetic event."

The design of YELLOW TREE comes down to just three decisions: the design of a piece of code that makes use of randomly generated, but somehow predefined, polygonal lines; a color for the object generated; and a color for the background. In my opinion, it is the strictness and simplicity of this setup that are of interest for its qualification as an aesthetic event.

YELLOW TREE (2001) by Hans Dehlinger is a print of a coded vector file that was originally written for and executed on a pen plotter. A great number of polygonal lines consisting of straight line segments originate in a very small square area at the bottom of the page, a symbol for the "root area" of the tree.

The blue background color is a reference to a wide blue sky in summer. The yellow reminds us of the time of harvest from the soil of the earth. The first instance of each line is always generated vertically and upwardsthe "stem of the tree". The lines further unfold and spread upward into the entire drawing area and are clipped at its borders.

EGGsly is a gender-neutral collection of 1,000 pieces of 276 hand drawn traits, and randomly generated NFTs built  and exists on the Ethereum Blockchain. 

There is also an OG collection, created in 2021 on the polygon blockchain. Each OG NFT is hand-assembled, and some are animated in Photoshop, making them one-of-a-kind, and were dropped starting September 3, 2021.

I've been wanting to mint imppossible figure on the Ethereum for a long time and finally it happened!

Exploring the geometry of shapes, I create architectural artworks with artistic intent, often using optical illusions and impossible shapes, as in this work, which embodies a kind of gateway to the starry sky.  
The figures are formed in a contradictory way, creating a visual illusion. For this object, perspective and shadow fall play a key role, which makes it impossible for such a thing to exist in the real world or possible, but only from a certain angle of observation.

Everything is so loud and fleeting that it sucks with your head and body, you don't have time to be happy, think about high things, enjoy the moments and details that overwhelm our world. The work calls for "taking a step" to the stars, to yourself, to enjoy the silence, to be at peace and catch your breath.

This piece began as a formal study in composition using simple layered shapes, but when I started experimenting with animation it took on a life of its own. The final work visualises in form, colour, and motion the tension between social conformity and self-expression. At times all of us are required to keep ourselves under control, so that we can live and work together without having to negotiate a thousand tiny idiosyncrasies. Other times we are free to act as wild as we like, but even within this freedom we often find ourselves expressing different kinds of alignment and harmonisation. Negotiating our lives involves finding a balance between these forces: conformity and harmony on one hand, and expression and freedom on the other. As long as we share space with others, we must always think about how our actions fit in with those of the people around us.

LIA has been making [generative software art since 1995](https://www.liaworks.com), and her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide. This piece extends her signature process of overlapping simple shapes in complex ways, applying a new quality of motion to paint and re-paint the composition, forming hypnotic, shifting patterns of movement and stillness.
