I've been making a lot of soul and r&b, but started hitting a wall. I was like, I'm angry. I can't do this. I'm too distracted. I'm too in my own head, so I wanted to make something aggressive to get my energy out. Every artist has that feeling of the cloud hanging over them like, You have to do this. You have to do that, says DEEGAN. 

I mostly only write good songs when I'm either really fucking mad or really fucking sad, Mija chimes in with encouraging affirmation.

my 1st collab with reo and the 1st song ever minted on top of a blocktone. i couldnt have imagined something like this in my time but here we are. 

Gino, Stolar and Reo hit me up right around art basel with the idea to have a writing camp in miami where we could write fire songs to blocktones beats. i wanted to make sure that whatever we did, the music was right and we were pushing web3 forward. 

we had so much fun on this one. first, the beat was epic, and getting to make something right off a blocktone that reo owned - that we could do whatever we wanted with - was one of those moments where i really felt the magic of web3. 

the studio in miami was iconic also so the whole thing was inspiring as fxck. reo bodied the track of course. this is def one of my favorite collabs ive ever done. its a blessing to get to work with amazing people and live this life everyday.

Sometimes the only way out is through. Civilizations in ruin tell stories of prideful men burning bridges & passing judgment. I inhaled the ashes of the aftermath as visions of the past became clear. A guardian angel descended upon my ancestors, exiling them from the place they called home. A golden blade carved out the foundation of the castle walls and suspended it above the clouds for no man, woman, or child to ever return.

Centuries have passed since then, yet the paradigms remain. At my birth I was given a pendant in the shape of a key by an elderly traveler. My grandmother told me it resembled a legendary sword. I carried it with me for decades never knowing its true power. But the day you and I met, I experienced an awakening; a burning sensation beneath my feet. Warring kingdoms became our thoughts. The battlefield, our conversations. The pen is mightier than the sword but the power of life and death is in the tongue. In truth you were sent to destroy me, but as time passed we found happiness in one another. You returned to your homeland only to be deemed a failure and executed. But love is not blind. It sees you in the dark and chooses to be your light. 

An emotional outburst to the news of your departure created a rift in the earth beneath our feet. From the dust appeared the key of legend. What I believed to be visions, were in fact memories of reincarnation. The guardian angel in human form, cast down from the Eternal Garden to endure pain, suffering, and heartbreak. 

Oh, how much Ive learned. In my agony, I cursed my enemies. I sought out revenge. The trials by which I judged humanity, even I could not conquer. I learned that the heart is fragile, but love is the password to every soul.

So in this life, I use this key, like Cupids arrow  to restore the Earth.

AZURE is the fourth song on my EP FAITH. It is the complete, uncut version of a song that my listeners might be familiar with - originally called "testdrive.wav".

AZURE feels like a firework being launched into an intense explosion in the sky, lighting it up on a dark, cold night. Ever since my first EP APOTHEOSIS, I wanted to bring back this kind of energetic feeling in one of my songs, and AZURE incorporates it perfectly.

In this song you'll find soothing voices hypnotizing you with ancient chants, a mellow orchestra from a distant era accompanying your soul throughout the song, and suddenly... glittery sounds and arpeggios will be exploding over syncopated drums and analog synths.

Giraffage

I wrote this song near the beginning of the pandemic. Bliss, like all songs that I write, encapsulates a moment in time. Writing songs is my personal way of keeping a diary. In a time of such chaos and uncertainty, the way that Ive found to stay sane is to look inwards and tap into the fundamental neural circuitry that we all have. Bliss is an exercise in staying true to my own tastes and experiences. The human experience is a constant struggle to achieve a state of bliss. 

I naturally gravitate towards experimentation and novelty. The strange filter patterns and sounds of the main synth lines were borne through countless hours of mixing and matching different parameters of different synthesizers. It is through this same ethos that pushed me towards the world of Web3 and sound.xyz is a perfect partner for me to explore the space with. 

Though the song represents a specific time and place for me, the meaning of it is obviously subjective to whoever listens. I hope that whoever takes the time to listen to it is able to add these frequencies to their own personal life journey and interpret it however they see fit.

This song describes a point in time at which I felt like the odds were stacked against me and my back was to the wall. Coming from where I'm from, this isn't a space that's foreign to me. I had to learn to remain level headed and accountable for my role in getting to the position I found myself in and patient. No matter how bad it gets I always find a way out. I'm covered by the source.

I wanted to offer this to anyone who needs to hear it at a time line this. No matter how heavy things get you've got the tools to get the weight up off you.
