Refik Anadol (b. 1985, Istanbul, Turkey) is a media artist, director and pioneer in the aesthetics of data and machine intelligence. His body of work locates creativity at the intersection of humans and machines. In taking the data that flows around us as the primary material and the neural network of a computerized mind as a collaborator, Anadol paints with a thinking brush, offering us radical visualizations of our digitized memories and expanding the possibilities of architecture, narrative, and the body in motion. Anadols site-specific AI data sculptures, live audio/visual performances, and immersive installations take many forms, while encouraging us to rethink our engagement with the physical world, its temporal and spatial dimensions, and the creative potential of machines.

An Important Memory for Humanity is Refik Anadols groundbreaking limited-edition NFT collection that utilizes data from the worlds first all-civilian space flight. The collection presents a series of poetic data sculptures and paintings of the Inspiration4 mission. 
	
For this collection, Anadol and his team interpreted data from SpaceX and NASA-funded research institute TRISH (Translational Research Institute for Space Health) on the effects of space travel on the human body. TRISH conducts cutting-edge research into the impact that the conditions in space have on the astronauts, with an attempt to reduce the health risks of venturing deeper into the universe.

Anadols one-of-a-kind NFT collection not only reveals an insight into the challenges of space travel, but also contributes to a meaningful and purposeful cause to help solve critical health issues. 30% of all NFT sales will be donated to St Jude Childrens Research Hospital.

The 21st century is the first golden age of space exploration and of artificial intelligence. In addition to viewing space exploration archives through the lens of artificial intelligence, one of the goals of this series is to address the idea of looking at humanity from outer space.

UMAP Sculptures are AI data paintings that simulate a latent walk in a data universe of all the images and spoken words from the mission, as the space travelers were looking at the world from outer space. They combine Anadols vision of handling data within its own universe with his approach to data visualizations latent space as a locus for self-generating expansion, like that of the universe.

This dynamic data painting uses the heartbeat information collected from the 4 astronauts during the space mission by TRISH, hoping to bring more awareness to various health issues humans encounter both on Earth and in space.
