I"ve been back and forth for a long time now on what my next move in life is gonna be, which has coincided with some setbacks on many levels recently that effectively solidified that I had to make it now, or I never would.

Long story short, I"m going back to school to get my Master"s degree in music, with the plan to teach/educate folks about electronic music from a Black perspective, and our history in revolutionizing all music with just a handful of musical devices and techniques, or through developing musical styles that dominate popular music to this day.

I digress, though: I"ve been feeling defeated until recently because I failed elsewhere in my life. I tried, really hard, but maybe just not hard enough. I"m tired. Exhausted. Sometimes from just being a Black man living in this world we live in, most times from just not being where I expected to be by now, which is really where the idea of this song originated.

This is for my peoples who are ready to give up. To stop chasing for a minute, and to accept where you"re at and how you feel, instead of propping up your ego and your pride, and say out loud that you really did try. We all have, we"ve all been there, too, so you"re not alone, and this isn"t the end. Enjoy it while you can, enjoy it here in this moment I created, and find catharsis in knowing you have to fail at some point, to one day eventually succeed.

Wheelie was the first song I made for My Golden Horse. 4KM (my producers) and I were in a studio session for about 6 hours at around 3am that night, the beat hit and I immediately knew what the hook was gonna be. Wheelie took about 6 months to make because we had a hard time figuring out how to weave in all the different textures, and pick all the right ideas to go into the final version of the song.

I just popped a wheelie on u = I just flexed on u. Its to remind ourselves that we deserve to give ourselves credit every once in a while after we put the work in to feel pride about our creations.

Since this beginning of this year, Ive been living in the new me. The new me that has had time to heal, grow spiritually, mature emotionally, and feel on a deeper level that I didnt know a man could feel. Prayer and therapy have beyond good to me.

On the week of February 6th, I was set to experience some of the most emotional moments of my life and I had no clue. Moments that would seem regular to someone else. These were good emotional moments on the way, of course.

On Thursday, February 10th I would release my Genesis NFT alongside some friends (virtually). A special moment for me because I truly enjoy my tribe and doing great things with them. These arent people I just release music with. These are close friends who I love and care for deeply.  We brought our lifestyle of intentional community to the Blockchain.

On Friday, February 11th I would celebrate my Birthday with my close family. Me, my mother, my wife, my sister, and her boyfriend all went out to eat at one of my favorite restaurants. Dinner was great but the conversation and laughter was food for the soul.

On Saturday, February 12th I would celebrate my Birthday with my close friends. We played games, drank, ate good and just enjoyed each others company. During our time, my wife called for a toast to acknowledge me. I didnt have many wordswhich is different for me in moments like those. Just, thank you all for coming through. I love you all, salud! I went to bed late that night not only warm and tipsy but my souls cup was filled to the brim.

That week is what birthed me writing and producing this song. All the moments I described may be normal to other people, especially on the week of ones birthday. But I felt the love on such a DEEPER level than ever before because of my healing experience.

All the healing I had been doing allowed my cup to be overflowed with a level of love I never felt before.

This is the 2nd Music Video NFT from Saint Rien.

Like You was one of the funnest videos to create! The song and video is an insight into my young, substance-filled journey from being a hopeless romantic who didnt believe in love. To finding my soulmate years later. 

From passion to attachment, drama, and betrayal, I wanted to build the song around the line; I can fall in love with someone hmmm, like you. Alternating between light heartedness or sarcasm and a more profound unveiling of the fact that I used to put myself through hell for someone, anyone to love me. 

The second half of the song and video depicts the death of my former self and my new life (in heaven) with my now wife, Stephanie. We met a month before I was to move to America and after doing long distance for 6 months, I proposed. Three years later were happier than ever.

Caught Up

I am BYHAZE, the Architect of Holistic Sounds and I create authentic music that creates space for healing and introspection. I hope to create art that changes peoples perception about what healing looks and sound like. Sometimes crystals and sound bowls arent enough to get you through that healing, sometimes you have to use that throat chakra to set boundaries and affirm your needs. 

Caught Up was a song I started in 2019 after experiencing a lot of growth in my personal life and career as an artist. I was in a rediscovery phase and sonically I wanted to try something new. Ive always loved pop and disco music growing up so it felt like a fun way to pay homage to my younger self. This was my first time back in the studio after a few months and it was such a cathartic experience. We free-styled a bit and came up with the melodies and the idea of caught up was born. The pandemic slowed us down a bit and we had to stop recording but we finished it in 2020 so it felt like the perfect song to release for my sound.xyz Genesis! I pulled influences from Earth Wind and Fire, Chromeo and Janelle Monae to create a feel good song with a message.

This song feels like a journey to self acceptance on a holistic level. The message of this song is not to get caught up in the idea that others may have for you because in turn you could end up living a lie. Sometimes people visit our social media pages and create an assumption about who we are or how we act and it can sometimes lead to disappointment if we dont live up to the perceived expectation. This can happen platonically or romantically and since I experienced it from both ends, I was inspired to make song that made light of the situation. The song encouraged me to lean into my authenticity more and not settle for a love or situation that makes me me to dim my light. The chorus gives language to anyone that is looking to affirm their boundaries and not get caught up in the lie that someone creates about them. The song is infused with joy and takes listeners on a journey, ultimately reminding them that their authenticity is their superpower and the best way to honor themselves is by being them! Setting boundaries isnt always fun, but I hope that singing this song can make it a little bit easier.

I very rarely use my highest range so it was fun creating this layered sounds and playing in the sky vocally. I mostly wanted it to feel like morning meditation. A song a person could listen to no mater how difficult the moment and recenter themselves. And I used a lot of vocal restraint and didnt sing like it was time for alter call because I really want the listener to sing along as personal affirmation that beauty is all around and in them.

This is a love letter to spring and finding the peaceful space inside you...
