if you would've told me a year ago that i'd be where i am today, i promise i wouldn't believe you. i'm writing this from my hotel room in new orleans, preparing for my presentation at ESSENCE Fest on Saturday, July 2, 2022. not only am i being honored for my music, but for my knowledge and work in Web3 as well. it feels good to be seen. it feels good to watch all things come together on time for me. finally.

to celebrate and commemorate this huge moment for me at ESSENCE Fest, i can't think of any song better than "All On Time" to mint. this song is about perseverance in the midst of uncertainty, and i believe that that is the very mindset that got me where i am today.

SHAKE

SHAKE truly encompasses me in one song. Music and dance have always been a big part of who I am. My first music class at age 4 was called music for the minis and it was a rhythm & beats class. I grew up as a classically trained musician and vocalist. 

For this song I recorded very intentional samples and even used my voice to create a unique sound and infuse it with my energy.

So what is SHAKE about?

Well, once upon a time I was part of a professional Tahitian dance troupe and it wasnt until I was in rehearsals that I realized how disconnected from myself and my body I was. 

Mama Kamai (the troupe mother) would go around the room and say to us, get your shake. I spent hours and hours practicing outside of rehearsals until I got my shake! Ill always remember that moment because I instantly felt liberated and at home in my body.

As a DJ and producer, Ive dreamed of making a song that honors this pivotal time in my life. Shake lays the foundation for my album and Im thrilled to share it as my Sound genesis.

I hope it makes you move and maybe youll get your shake too. When in doubt, dance it out. Its good for the soul.
