BlueOM is a prequel to BlueGM and everything I plan to build around The Memes ecosystem.   
   
Designed in a classic retro arcade game style, BlueOM features a vessel floating in the blue open metaverse to spread the message of decentralization and fight for an open metaverse. The vessel is led by Prof. C. Richard Butt and it broadcasts messages out in the metaverse every time a user types "OM" or "om". Hovering over the vessels two squares also gives you a peek into it.

Since first cancer, then COVID, kept me confined to my house for the better part of two years, I was determined to visit my home state as often as possible in 2021. On my third trip out there, in June, right before capturing the Milky Way for the first time, I decided I had to photograph this particular Beach Tower. Interesting fact: my Aunt Julie owns the copyright to these distinct towers that dot the Los Angeles Coast and has a clothing line featuring them.

My friends decided that the Santa Monica ferris wheel was worth capturing at sunset, so I hung back and watched the transition of colors from this point of view by myself. As I stood there, I watched people hang out in groups, meditate, and simply be in front of the waves. I wondered how they handled the past year of the pandemic. Overall, I could feel a sense of relief in the air. Life was starting to return to normal as most people felt comfortable venturing outside the confines of their homes again.

A woman later approached me as I was flying a drone in the area (you can get LAANC authorization up to 50 feet in this location) and asked me about my work. It turns out she was a director. We talked for over an hour and the next thing I knew, the beach police were watching us from their scooters 50 feet away. I calmly did a hand catch of my drone and they simply drove away, out of sight. Before I knew it, I found myself alone on the sand with several text messages from my friends telling me where to meet for dinner.

Venice Beach isn"t known for being the safest place, especially at night. Even flanked with roughly $9,000 in drone and camera gear, I felt confident walking a half-mile back to my rental car. If you truly believe you are protected in this world, you will emit that energy and be safe.

Beach Tower Bliss

If I had any idea how potentially dangerous this particular mission could be, would I go back? 

Our group arrived at the Air Force base around 1:30 am and hiked a mile through a maze of quicksand, cacti, and a variety of other prickly foliage - without GPS. Juan was brave enough to climb atop the abandoned B-52 bomber and shine his light on the night sky.

If accounts from other people who visited this place are accurate, we could have encountered military police, aliens, and a big foot-type creature. We all made it safely back to our cars after being awake for 30 hours. This image is special because it represents bravery  a required element for an extraordinary image.

Get Up, Stand Up

It had been almost 3 years since I returned to San Francisco for a visit this past June. It felt like an eternity. The city had changed into something even more recognizable than when I left it last. Tech and poor leadership have altered a place I often visited as a child and lived during most of my 20s and early 30s.

This night, however, flying from a friend"s rooftop apartment, reminded me that it is still one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It can be resurrected  granted voters can eventually recall ineffective "leaders" like Chesa Boudin out. I"ll always return, and bring my daughter back, but I do sometimes mourn those carefree times from decades past when everything was truly more diverse.
