This image is of a Brown Fish Owl captured on an early winter morning in Gir forest, India. It is an enigmatic species among Owls with such mesmerising eyes. They are called Sentinels of the forest. When other diurnal animals in the forest are asleep or resting in the night, owls being nocturnal birds are awake and watching over the forest throughout the night. They can see clearly in the dark or in night and also have evolved a stealth flight which helps them to move about in the forest seeing everything and hardly being detected. Ecologically they contribute immensely to the food chain by feeding on small mammals or reptiles thus keeping their population in check in the environment.

The forests in the foothills and the floodplains of the Himalayas are some of the best places to explore India"s pristine wildlife. The unique habitat and its relationship with the denizens have the power to weave some really amazing visual stories of the wilderness. 
It was November 2016, and I was out exploring the magnificent terai forest of Dudhwa National Park, in northern India. This place is popular for its Tigers, Elephants, Rhinos, Barasinghas (Swamp Deer) and many more endangered species of wildlife along with a plethora of birds and other fauna. Morning safaris during this time of the year are usually very cold due to the onset of winter. This was one such morning, there was a thick blanket of mist all around the woods and the air was bone-chilling! All these along with soft and subtle light made every corner of the forest look very mystical and mysterious. I was on my way to a watchtower and was passing through a road that was surrounded by tall trees and dense undergrowth, it almost seemed like a tunnel leading to a new destination. This was when something really magical happened. As the car was heading closer towards the end of this patch of forest, I noticed something peep out from the thickets at the side of the road. An instant spike of adrenaline made me ask the driver to slow down the car, it was a Spotted Deer, a commonly seen species in the jungles of India. In forests like these, people often ignore them when it comes to photography, because most of the time the priority is on Big Cats, Elephants and other species. But, I felt that something was about to happen here that I hadn"t photographed or even seen before. What could it be? A few minutes of wait and then the entire scene turned into something extremely blissful and spectacular! The Stag with all its grandeur, walked out in the open and stood by the side of the road. I could visualise a frame here and was absolutely blessed that I was able to recreate it through this photograph. The entire ambience of the cold winter morning and the mysterious woods made everything look so magical, as if a moment from the land of wonders! Every element of the forest has the soul of the woods, it doesn"t matter whether it"s an ant or an elephant, the cycle of life in the forest depend on all. The tranquility of the moment, the sound of the rustling leaves, the chirping of the early birds and the lone Deer filling the space was all that was needed to make me believe that dreams do come true...I witnessed it that day, I witnessed the soul of the winter woods. 

Photographing wildlife by including a majority of its habitat is a style that I am very fond of and have been spending quite a lot of time in developing it. This particular photograph was one of the first of my images where I could establish my own style and incorporate my thoughts and emotions in it. The "Soul of the winter woods" will always hold a special place in my heart, not just because it encapsulated a precious memory in it but also because it represented my style of work to the world. It certainly is a milestone image in my journey as a wildlife photographer, an image that received immense love and appreciation from all across the world, got published in many places and was also a finalist in the very prestigious 15th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest.

Wild Angels

Can predators be predated? A question that arouse in my mind long ago, was mystically solved on my visit to Masai Mara this year. Let "Tangerine" answer that for you. 

Selangi, a cheetah named by local Masai tribes, is a "she cat". She was the  mother of two cubs when I first saw her. On my first encounter, the sight I evidenced was eye opening. She just hunted a deer and was eating it with the cubs when a hyena snatched their hunt and took it away leaving them hungry and food less for the entire day. She left the place to save her cubs.

It was almost heart breaking to see those babies remain hungry. In the wild, cheetahs are actually the most innocent big cat if we may say. They are easily predated over by other predators. And most of the time they helplessly gives up due to lack of power or unity. 

However, two days later we found her hunting this baby Common Eland. It was not more than 3/4 hours old and didn"t even learn to run from predators. This was another eye opening situation. I felt extremely sad at the Eland"s demise but then I realized that nature has its own way. The powerful will always hunt the less powerful. Two days ago I felt bad for the cubs and now I was feeling bad for the Eland. We sympathize with the less powerful of course. But, this is also the truth that this Eland actually saved the three lives of the cheetah family who were possibly starving for the last two days after they lost their hunt to the hyena.

And that"s why "Tangerine". Tangerine is a shade of orange but not orange. It has a sour taste but not too sour as well. It is as if a paradox in nature. An undefined intermediate, just like our cheetahs here. Also incidentally, Selangi"s eyes were tangerine as well somehow reminding me that she is also a paradox and that she is trying her best to protect her babies and being a perfectly great mom to them. 

But at the end this experience taught me something. In Africa they say, "if you want to run fast, run alone, but if you want to run far, run together." Perhaps the fate of the predator cheetahs being predated over by another teaches us that howsoever powerful we may be, running solo will always be disadvantageous.

It is impossible to be in a bad mood when watching puffins.  With their colorful beaks and bright orange feet, they are natures antidepressant.  Time to share the joy!

I am Blue Jay Way, and I connect with the beauty of nature and wildlife through photography.  My photos often raise awareness of conservation efforts and the impact of our personal choices.  

Fun facts: Puffins live for about 20 years, mate for life, and share the burden of raising their chicks, called pufflings.  
Pufflings incubate in burrows for about 40 days, have about 40 days in the nest with their parents, and then spend the next 2-3 years at sea before returning to the same place to mate.  

Puffins are sensitive to human choices, and populations in some places have declined due to overfishing and climate change.  Puffins remind us of how connected we are to the natural world and how many beautiful creatures either benefit or suffer from the choices we make.

The Puffin Portrait 1/15 edition celebrates the beauty and resilience of puffins.  The photo was taken on the Isle of May, Scotland, which is home to over 200,000 nesting seabirds in the spring.  When the edition sells out, I will adopt a puffin through the National Audubon Society.

Puffin Portrait #10/15

This beautiful Photo I clicked in cappadocia, It was not easy at all. I was traveling solo and when i arrived it was bad weather so they cancelled all the balloon rides so i had to wait for 3 days to see this beauty. I woke up at 4am and rode my scooter all the way up to the hill to capture the first light and my first experience of balloons in this beautiful country. What an amazing memory and colors in whole valley. It was like i was watching rainbow in the sky

Cappadocia Sunrise

**About:**
This was shot in Masai mara, on a cold morning, when we were following this young male leopard "ROHO", through the dense bushes. We were waiting for him to come out into the open for almost an hour, to get our phot-op opportunities, however leopards are very shy in nature, and he took an eternity to show us his splendid personality. His mother Luluka,   was unfortunately killed by a Lion a few days before this. Cats are territorial in nature and Lions being at the top of the food chain, normally kill other cats" cubs, to reduce competition. Roho however survived that attack, and has now grown to a sub adult stage. Cheers to these beautiful cats.

In this shot, i have tried to portray the grace which these big cats possess along with some killer looks.
