*In The Age of Self Indulgence*, Alice Gordon continues to explore the depths of human psyche with her distinctive visual style. Here, the self is not singular but splintered, a chorus of personas each vying for the spotlight. As the body is replicated and reimagined, it becomes a metaphor for the multiplicity of selves that we adopt for different aspects of modern life.

Generated with a custom trained AI model based on her previous art, then processed with two upscalers, Gordons latest series is an idiosyncratic surrealist collection. This is a realm where the self is endlessly recreated and displayed, a loop of introspection that both critiques and indulges the human penchant for self-obsession. Each tableau is a commentary on the contemporary condition, a blend of absurdity and truth, where the need for recognition and remembrance reveals our deepest desires and vulnerabilities.

Vintage items, each a strange anachronism, are positioned throughout the spaces and challenge the viewer to consider the absurdity of self-importance. The intentional manipulation of time through decors and outfits serve to show that the roots of our narcissistic tendencies, have always been the same. The opulent and excessive decor serves as a canvas for the critique, providing a stark juxtaposition to the neutral expressions of the subjects who sit among their own images, at once the monarchs and prisoners of their self-made domains.

Human memories are not fixed and unchanging. Every time we recall a memory, our brain reconstructs and reinterprets it, a process called memory reconsolidation. This process not only influences how we remember but also has a significant impact on the authenticity of our recollections. The very act of remembering something can alter, modify or even erase parts of that memory. These art pieces embrace the fragility, uncertainty, and flexibility inherent in our perception of the past, to highlight the delicate balance between preserving and transforming our personal experiences.

2024 April #003. The city never truly sleeps, not in the traditional sense. Its consciousness merely shifts, wandering through cycles of vivid clarity and hazy dreams. The streets of the urban labyrinth, veins filled with the lifeblood of relentless activity, begin to exhale the day"s frenzy as dusk falls. It"s amidst this transformation that the neon begins to whisper.

Alex strolled down the boulevard, as the first hints of the synthetic auroras flickered to life. The streetlights, elders of the cityscape, bore witness to his nightly pilgrimage. Their amber eyes reflected in the puddles left by the afternoon rain, pools of captured sky on the stained concrete canvas.

Encased by glowing signs and storefronts that clung to the last patrons of the day, Alex observed the silent conversations of passersbysilent to the ear but loud in gesture and gaze. He found solitaire comfort knowing each silhouette encased untold stories. Tonight, the whispers grew louder, a symphony composed of the hums of turning neon signs, the rhythmic clatter of a distant train, and the soft murmur of a city settling into its nocturnal embrace.

Alex felt each whispered secret brushing past, a soft electric breeze carrying voices from unseen places and imminent moments. On nights like these, the city seemed to straddle parallel worlds, one foot in the tangible, the other stepping into realms of what could be. The conventional modes of artistic expression for these matters have become obsolete. To adequately represent these issues, we must venture into uncharted territories within surrealism. By blending post-photography using AI tools with neo-surrealism, we lay a strong foundation for this exploration.

Spanning from minimalist symmetrical compositions to awkward surreal chaos, my collection employs a visual strategy that invokes the absurd. The constant bombardment of stimuli in contemporary life has left individuals feeling dull, numbed, and void. Through a visual style that captures this inherent tension and anxiety through absurd dullness, I aim to reveal unpredictable, awkward realms and unexplored territories"
