Adding to the particle engine's meticulous precision is an innovative color selection system. This mechanism instills each piece with a lively dynamism and refreshing unpredictability as colors are orchestrated through a judicious blend of intentional choice and spontaneous chance.

Inspired by the striking juxtaposition between order and randomness, the color layers in "Dream Logic" manifest as an intriguing exploration of chaos intertwined with harmony. Each creation is a testament to the rich tapestry of contrasts that define this unique art series.

Bright Moments Flex

Neural Fad reimagines Tokyo street fashion history to examine the relationship between AI and memory.

In post-war Japan, distinctive magazines and television cultivated an aspirational youth culture that gave rise to unique fashion subcultures at different train stations around Tokyo. Inspired by the rebellious spirit of each generation and their projections towards an imagined future, Kusano produces records of subcultures that never actually existed.

Reimagining the rich vocabulary and history of Tokyo street fashion through AI, the collection takes the viewer across and beyond the post-war decades of Japanese fashion history   from the Moga and Mobo of the 1940s to the Japanese hippies known as the Ften Tribe, the Karasu Tribe of the 90s and the Gyaru and Decora fashion of the late 90s and early 2000  to present Tokyo street fashion as imagined beyond time. 

Through this collaboration between AI and Japanese street fashion archives that she herself contributed to as a street photographer of Harajuku fashion,  Kusano uses emerging technologies to offer a retro-futuristic intervention into the landscape of Tokyo street fashion.

VOICE GEMS

In 2021, Herbert W. Franke and Harry Yeff started a conversation about the concept of VOICE GEMS and an audio-visual collaboration. Franke suggested using the lyrics of ASTROPOETICON because they are a minimalist and associative approach to language that could have been created by an AI. These lyrics were frozen as gemstones, the VOICE GEMS ASTROPOETICON, created by Herbert W. Franke, Harry Yeff, Trung Bao and an AI. (The first three 1/1s have been minted and collected in 2021.)

The lyrics used for the VOICE GEMS ASTROPOETICON (DESTINATION IN UNCERTAINTY) belong to a cycle of 16 poems called ASTROPOETICON. Written by Franke in 1979 to be published in a book alongside artworks by German space artist Andreas Nottebohm, he voiced them on the occasion of his 80th birthday in 2007. 

Every voice is unique, and with that comes unique fingerprint-like data that can be used for bespoke and human centred generative design. Harry Yeff (aka REEPS100) and Trung Bao have developed a voice-centred generative system utilising data found in a human voice to synthesise the artworks form and colour. Features like pitch, resonance, harmonics and pace sculpt 200 000 particle data points in a simulated digital space. The VOICE GEMS series is a vibrant, unprecedented meditation highlighting remarkable and influential voices. Each VOICE GEM is added to the VOICE GEMS: 1000 Year archive. 

Herbert W. Franke (19272022) was a pioneer of computer art who anticipated the metaverse. For several decades, he separated three lives: the caver and scientist; the artist and curator; and the science fiction author. In the early 1950s, caving led him to experiment with light and technology. He kept his curiosity throughout his life; it was his drive to examine new technologies for their artistic potential. His pioneering spirit made him one of the first computer artists who was more than six decades ahead of his time. In 1979, he co-founded Ars Electronica. Franke has been called the most prominent German science fiction writer by Die Zeit, and a short story fireworker by the FAZ. In 2022, his first NFT Drop MATH ART sold out within 30 seconds on Quantum, and he was the headliner at the Tezos Booth at Art Basel with MONDRIAN, a work from 1979. Herbert W. Franke died on July 16, 2022, at the age of 95, leaving behind an extensive oeuvre.

By default, browsers stretch and interpolate pixels of low-resolution images into blurred colors. Cage is a study of this flux between the browser and how it interpolates images and color. Layers of these stretched pixels fit your screen to make a cage of light, blending grids of color onto a canvas. Cage paints the screen with variations of six web colors (blue, orange-red, green, magenta, violet, and yellow) to create new interactions made possible only by this resolution play.

Ah, what a ride it has been! One year ago, something took form in the wild and chaotic world of the digital frontier. It was a celebration of all things creative, a convergence of art and technology and culture. And now, on this day of its first anniversary, it has manifested into something remarkable.

Its a visual feast of texture and form that showcases the incredible talent of the various artists and designers who have contributed to the community over the past year.

And yet, for all its beauty, there"s a hint of mischief here too. A hint of mystery that begs to be explored. A hint of a hidden message, like an Easter egg waiting to be discovered. Something that speaks to the curious and the adventurous, to those who are always looking for something more, something deeper, something hidden in the shadows.

So, who will be the first to unlock the secrets of this art piece? Who will be the one to find the hidden message? Only time will tell, my frens. But one thing is for certain: this art piece is not just a mere celebration of the first year of this IRLAs existence. It"s a call to arms, a challenge to those who seek the truth, an invitation to those who dare to look deeper, to explore, to discover, to unlock the secrets of the digital frontier.

- The Queen Painting  -

Queen is quiet dignity and acceptance of the sacrifices required to serve art. I made this painting as a seal to protect the place of giving so that it will not be drained by the force of scarcity.

The Queen Painting unites the threads of my artistic work throughout the year 2022. This canvas was painted on the pavement of the carpark where I made the music film Queensland. The face I wore in that film became OtherFace #23, which now resides in the permanent collection of Pindar Van Arman"s Meta Portrait Gallery. I wore The Queen Painting as a dress in the series PAINTED, my first fashion statement in the cryptoart space. Those photographs, as well as The Queen Painting itself are now integrated as training data in my current AI fashion work. Queen is the foundation and the precipice from which my art continues to grow.

I inscribe the divine openness of the Queen into a sovereign contract and offer it to you as an open edition.

I Heart Girl - Original Intro

When I Heart Girl, the photography monograph, was assembled there were two separate versions published. The first version that went to print, the original layout, was the only time where this image appeared and was never reproduced in the final run.
