Hi guys :) Im sophia alexa, Im an artist and songwriter born in california and raised in amsterdam, now living in london. ive had a love of songwriting since the day my obsession with Joni Mitchell started. growing up all I listened to was 70s music while writing songs at my kitchen table and I never thought Id be releasing them. i wrote "the way you see me" when i noticed i had started to change myself for someone else in a relationship. i was becoming someone i thought they wanted me to be. i became a stranger to them and it felt too late to be honest.

While working on this record I was aware that this didnt sound anything like how Im supposed to.  But I guess thats why it excited me.  I always talk with artists I work with and we frequently get on the subject of how their music never sounds like what they actually like to listen to.  I always thought that was odd, almost wrong.  Mirror sounds like the type of music that Iusually listen to.  Not all the time, but if Im on a plane or just cooling outIm playing stuff like Bon Iver, the Shins, Modest Mouse Almost calming, soul nurturing records. I was laughing with a friend about how everyones always trying to make the hardest most in your face record (which Ive done dozens of times), and about the power in the opposite.  

Ive been working on this record for 2 years and always knew it would eventually come out, just needed to find the right time.  I played this last week for my friend Rey, who is one of my favorite painters/artists probably living, his response was I cant believe you made this.  Thats probably the best thing I could have heard.

The songs about being honest with yourself, even about the ugly shit.  Its a tune of ambivalence.  And is sort of on the subject of not knowing.  Not exactly being sure.  Trying to face yourself but the image keeps changing.  Trying to see what is actually there, and what youre just dreaming up.   I think today people can toxically be like, Face your demons! Change your life! Get your act together!  I think its way more complex than that and that we are constantly shape-shifting.  Sometimes youre the fool, sometimes youre a genius, sometimes criminal.  The song sort of deals with facing all of these sides. 


My good friend and touring partner Sol Was played bass on it, his brother Henry played the drums. Johan Lenox did the strings and backgrounds.  Hope you enjoy.

we did this because we wanted to show how art changes. as we bring more brain power into something, creations evolve and this is a beautiful part of the process.

why are you guys dropping old demos as NFTs instead of new finished music you might ask 

being an artist is by no means an easy feat. Your product requires vulnerability in its rawest form, generally in an attempt to reach masses. that said, often times so much of the musical process gets overlooked as the consumer is generally receiving the final and most polished version of the music.

as a band we believe in pushing boundaries, exposing all the layers of our artistry, and showing you every aspect of whats its taken for us to get to where we are now to give a deeper look into our work.

this is exactly what sparked our collection WORKS OF PROGRESS.

Hundreds of NFT's representing 15 legendary figures from throughout history, designed in the 8-bit style that artist Keenan Wells (Pixel Hall of Fame) pioneered. While others have created PFP artwork algorithmically, each Pixel Hall of Fame design is created by hand using both analog and digital tools. First Day Out is the open edition collection by DrifterShoots, released on the 1 year anniversary of his first day out of jail. 

I stopped silently on the bridge and peered off into the night. I turned to the bridge and looked up as I always do, reminding myself that this wouldnt last forever. Turning up a hidden ladder I climbed headlong into the night, the chains of a broken heart falling away the higher I went.  I sat silently atop the bridge, my eyes glistening with city lights, the sounds of taxis and fleeting youth filled the air below. I watched and watched, my eyes filling with tears, after all this time, it all still had a hold on me. I couldnt shake the dream, after cold cell walls and nights spent curled up on dirty cell floors, after the touch of an officer's gun to the back of my skull, I was still here. Everything that remains is sacred, you find that in the aftermath you possess all that you need, in that moment I knew I was meant to keep dreaming.

Friendship Bracelets by Alexis Andr

Since founding Art Blocks in 2020, artist Erick Calderon (a.k.a. Snowfro) has been intrigued by the idea of representing digital artwork in the physical world in the form of an ephemeral physical object with meaning, but with no inherent value. 

Donald Judd has long been an inspiration for Art Blocks. One aspect we admire most about Judds artistic practice is the elegance of design he effortlessly paired with the accessibility of materials that could be found at a hardware store. With Judd as inspiration, we hatched a plan to create a unique generative art friendship bracelet that includes instructions to make, in minutes, a simple bracelet using a few dollars worth of embroidery floss. Donald Judd believed that what surrounds us in our day-to-day life is already so beautiful, and that ultimately the experience of creating art is as important as owning it.

Erick was incredibly excited to collaborate with renowned artist Alexis Andr (a.k.a. MacTuitui) to bring generative art and ephemeral physical objects together in the form of friendship bracelets. Conceptualized by Erick and aesthetically and programmatically designed by Alexis, this project pairs creative coding with a beautiful spectrum of embroidery floss colors. The project was a true team effort, as each member of the Art Blocks team designed and named their own color palette!

The project is a token of our appreciation to the creators, makers, builders, and collectors who have all contributed to making the Art Blocks community what it is today. Participating in this project is a signal, both online and IRL, that youre a participant in this evolution of art + community. You are pushing the best ideas forward. You are the reason all of these imaginative projects come to life. Our community is what makes all of this possible. So, to say it plainly, we appreciate you, and we hope that youll accept this bracelet as a token of our special friendship!

The owner of any wallet with an Art Blocks piece at the time of snapshot (October 26, 2022, at 3pm US Central time) is eligible to claim two mints from this special generative art project.
