Perils of Ss is an illustrative generative-meets-hand drawn digital art series, limited to a number of unique pieces by All Seeing Seneca.

Seneca once again uses her artistic voice, stemming from a background of traditional illustration and animation, to tell a new nonlinear, abstract story about the reflection of Self.

Perils stars three new creatures and a child protagonist inspired by new lore. The series pays homage to the aesthetics and structure of storybooks and analog animation techniques, revealing the artists refreshing take on the generative art scene.

Perils is made up of three chapters and each page represents a singular idiosyncratic timeline, granting the viewer the ability to collect and curate their own path in this sprawling and mystical tale.

Each artwork is a standalone painting and has three different blooms of borders that are revealed only in time.

An emerging face becomes noticeable as it seems to rise out of the jumbled composition on the right. The idea being that this entity leaves behind a history of complicated events that are portrayed in my typical unharnessed fury of lines shape and color. Like a passing ship it leaves the past in its wake.

Reveal

Since I was young, I always used the cartoon bubble to write in text to help explain the ideas in my drawings. Something that has passed on through the years... I did several paintings in the same context where I illustrated with a frenzy of scribbles what thoughts could look like. These floating gestural scribbles represent how I view brain activity and thoughts. (The physical painting sold for $11,000 and now resides in a private collection well outside the NFT realm; it will not be displayed online.)

My Thoughts

The open fields that lay barren in the local landscape. The yellow dry crop shimmers in a raking sunlight all held together by a series of loosely drawn lines that capture the essence of the farm structures, paths and vehicles.

 This 12-second animated video represents the "UNI" series  my attempt to reconnect with my ancestors in ancient times. "UNI" is a word in the native language (Papiamento) of Aruba. It means "united" in English. "Siribana" (name is of possible Arawak origin) is a place in Aruba, known for having the only few petroglyphs in Aruba, it lies in the center of the island.
 
 This artwork represents a pictograph (cave drawing) found in this location and executed with my own artistic expression, based on number 115 out of the 480+ pictographs documented in the book The Archaeology of Aruba: The pictographs and petroglyphs" by Aad H. Versteeg & Harold J. Kelly. (Do you know the difference between pictographs and petroglyphs? A pictograph is painted on the stone/cave while a petroglyph is a shape that is carved into the stone/cave.) There are more than 480 pictographs and petroglyphs that have been documented in Aruba, some lost today due to vandalism and natural decay. 
 
 These pictorial creations are inspired by the many shapes Ive internalized in my own artistic visions along with a newfound inspiration to connect with my indigenous roots in precolonial times by bringing that sensibility into contemporary times. 
 
 The materials used are one square meter of cotton canvas with a natural material that is called annatto (Bixa Orellana) in English, achiote in Spanish and rucu in Papiamento. Rucu is a seed that is used in crushed seed and powder form, mixed with a binder and white acrylic paint. The work also incorporates black and chrome-colored paint marker. 
 
 I incorporated rucu in the work because it connects me with my Arawak/Caquetio ancestors. The material is considered sacred among indigenous peoples in South and Central America and the Caribbean and it has many usages, including medicine, rituals, body adornment, food, etc. In today"s world, the material is used primarily as food dye, found from my own home to worldwide factories. (Every Aruban can tell you the story how Grandma always used to have some annatto seeds cooked in oil at the ready to add some natural color to a dish.)

Migration is a piece born out of the realization of a fragmented sense of home. I suspect a lot of people around the world experience feeling "missing home" in a literal or figurative sense. It appears to be also something that is innate to us spiritually, a feeling of belonging or a feeling of displacement at times throughout one"s life.
