Grails IV

Upon encountering Matisse's ""Blue Nudes"" series, I found myself intrigued by the photograph of a room adorned with these simple yet evocative depictions of the human form. At first glance the figures appeared as harmonious abstractions, each embodying a shared pose while subtly diverging in unique ways upon closer inspection. This experience ignited my fascination with the artistic endeavor to recreate the same essence through multiple iterations, prompting a contemplation on the role of variations in a generative art series in an era often fixated on extravagant algorithmic diversity.

Here we aim to celebrate subtlety. This project employs not only the randomness inherent to algorithms but also the serendipity of human intervention. Anchored in my own hand-drawn inputs, the process intertwines organic paths with algorithmic automation, generating polygons that exude the beauty of nuanced distinctions.

Beyond technique, this endeavor mirrors an autobiographical passage  a celebration of my evolution from functional coder to constructor of pure form. Matisse's iconic method of composing with cut paper  initially a preparatory ritual  mirrors my own journey. What once served utilitarian software now finds purpose in artistry, code morphing into my chosen medium of artistic expression. This metamorphosis, a kinship to Matisse's transformation, is my homage to the creative odyssey that beckons when code transcends its pragmatic origins.

The advancement of my art involved sequential, gradual, and consistent experimentation. It was never a binary of a certain style "working" and another "failing". The changes over time flowed, one after another, and came to me naturally. I went where the art took me. It required hundreds of artworks before my art arrived to where it is today, where it is still evolving, and will evolve perpetually.
The exhibited piece, Paying Debts is from a time where the strictly-collage style was expanding with a layer of illustrations. The main classical art piece that "Paying Debts" is based on is "The Last Statement" by Arthur Kampf.
During this time, my art was much simpler in its detail. I do not remember exactly, but this piece probably took me a few hours over the course of a few days to create. It shows the combination of collage with immature illustration on top. The faces on the characters foreshadow the creation of my colorful, hooded characters called "fiends". The clouds in the background were illustrated by me, but are far less detailed than the clouds I draw today.
This piece is important to me because it shows how far my art has come. My work gained traction in 2021, but not many people have looked back at my older work and how it has consistently evolved into where it is today. Its important to look back into any artists career to see first-hand that it is almost never an overnight "success."

Bubble

'Bubble' is a dynamic, on-chain collection that calls attention to the objecthood of digital artworks by responding to market activity. Born in a binary state, each 'Bubble' is 'inflated' at mint, and designated a resiliency parameter. If the collector reaches the resiliency threshold, through trading before the parameter is met, the Bubble will explode! After that, the Bubble becomes 'immortalized,' irreversibly. Each token's smart contract records its state ('inflated/immortalized') on-chain, and displays a corresponding visual expression. Pulling on the tensions between ephemerality, permanence, and fragility, 'Bubble' both concretizes and questions the volatility of the market.

Collectors can transfer their tokens after minting without the bubble changing during a 6 hour grace period.

Entry Through the Print Shop by Torsten Sauer

A generative algorithm inspired by the screen printing technique and minimal op art.
Each image is created from multiple single-color layers. The overlapping colors blend and create new colors. The offset between the layers can produce moir effects of varying strength and dynamics.

Sonoran Roadways by Jake Rockland

Long drives can be seen as a monotonous chore, or a peaceful solace. "Sonoran Roadways" is a prompt to see the road as a conduit for joyous return to places we find special. The project continues my reflection on physical and significant spaces, which started with previous projects "Stipple Sunsets", "Patchwork Saguaros", and "Speckled Summits". 

In these three prior works, I looked to capture the essence of the "escape of the beach", the "home I grew up in" of the Sonoran desert, and the "home I find now" in the Rocky Mountains. "Sonoran Roadways" continues this arc, reflecting similar active appreciation of space and place found in the transition of travel.

The style and technique of "Sonoran Roadways" is homage to stencil-like qualities of silkscreen printmaking. As the grandson of two artists who worked in the mediums of printmaking, paper cutting, and quilt making, I strive to incorporate the qualities of these mediums into my stipple-based digital paintings.

Additional approaches are pulled from my abstract experimentation in "Dot Matrix Gradient Study" with distortion and "digital misprinting" applied to the stipple matrices, but with a return to a figurative form.

Palettes used in "Sonoran Roadways" are largely inspired by Arizona"s scenic drives and fantastical multi-colored sunsets  peaceful and familiar to me. 

"Sonoran Roadways" is a call to appreciate the potentially mundane, and get lost in the imagination of the journey back to somewhere called home or the fantasy of an exploration to somewhere new.

Fushi No Reality -  by Samsy

Fushi ( Japanese for immortality / eternal life ) is a concentration study to help those who might need help to slow down in their lives, those who get lost in their thoughts, and those who need a focus point to stand up.

No Reality is an invitation to contemplation. 

It acts as a support to our emotional levels and aims to enhance our environment by guiding us into a meditation state. Both contemplation and meditation have proven to have a positive impact on improving mental and physical health. 

Consciousness, Healing arts, and spirituality, Fushi No Reality is a window through surrealities. A procedural immortal healing ritual unlocking our capacity to cure ourselves. 

Each surreality is forged from a real-time organic system running in an infinite and perpetual movement, crafted from chaos and noise-domain explorations. From a computing point of view, there is no distinction between visually random noise and mastered noise. They are both an output of the same algorithm perceived by our brain as a signal. From a soul point of view, the difference is the perception and what we, humans, do qualify as pleasing, perceptible, or intriguing.

Exploration, observation, and modulation are key to this vast pandemonium of chaos. A creative process to re-forge shapes we already observe in our worlds best inspiration: Nature.

This inspiration directed Fushi No reality towards Landscape art/cloth art mixed with vaporware aesthetics, slow movement, and peaceful color palettes. A light beam travels through each surreality to guide a few voyaging spirits across the landscape. Portrait or landscape,  the surrealities are meant to be displayed in both ways, viewers may look at generative cloth swirling and sci-fi planetary landscapes. 

The more adventurous may move their cursor to the top or bottom to live a faster healing experience.

No one can bring you peace but yourself, but this time, lets travel together.
