Tender Flex

The long haul just feels so. long sometimes. So far to go, so many obstacles, so many intricacies  often it can be difficult to see through the challenges and remember that everything complex can be divided into smaller, simpler pieces. 

This project is about going back to basics and starting with building blocks like simply delightful objects that bring me joy, my roots in typography & lettering, and  as a metaphor for clarity  the core components of language: our ABCs. 

At the same time, this series is about pushing forward  continuing to evolve the style of my recent generative AI work, which is itself an extension of a lifelong art making practice. If ever the path towards art feels blocked, these works remind me to proceed with simplified persistence.

So ABCs is both a continuation of the long journey, and the start of something new. Even the 26 letters of this project are a symbol of the 26 founding members of Tender that helped start the community that continues to grow, and inspire me. 

Releasing this project marks another milestone in our efforts to bridge generative art across platforms, and its another way for our collaborations to reach new collectors. What comes next is sure to be a challenge, but Im excited as ever for this ride  and for it being as long as possible.

ABCs #20

Bright Moments

"Public Art" is a generative art piece with a concept of exploring new histories in art. As demonstrated in [0xhaiku's previous work, "Receipt,"](https://slbls.art/receipt) the transaction information engraved on receipts suggests that new art finds value in the record of transactions, connecting you to the art. In this work, a color palette inspired by Vermeer, Hokusai and others is used to generate tiles with a generative oil painting-like touch. This symbolizes history, expressing the hope that new art will truly become "public" through the changes and transitions of history.

Tiles
The tiles are simulated based on inspiration from the actual streets of Omotesando in Tokyo. The color palette incorporates colors inspired by the floors in Vermeer's paintings, ukiyo-e, and others. The oil painting-like strokes are generated using generative techniques, giving each tile its unique charm.

2D Canvas
This work is drawn using only a 2D canvas, without the use of libraries. 3D representation is not utilized. Since 0xhaiku's previous work "Receipt," they have been fascinated by the allure of wrinkles and shadows, and "Public Art" serves as a study in creating the illusion of three-dimensionality on flat surfaces using generative noise.

Receipt
The receipt includes information on the Seed generated by ArtBlocksEngine at the time of the transaction, as well as token-specific elements. At the BrightMoment event in Japan, physical receipts with similar information printed on them will be distributed. 0xhaiku values the idea that everyone can participate in new art without relying on authority and has chosen the motif of everyday street receipts.

Good Morning is an edition of 28 representing the lunar month. Over time, some of the pieces will die while others continue to live based on the behavior of their owners. The owner"s own mortality becomes a factor as wellwill they create a contingency plan for their own death to keep the piece alive? The work questions our relationship with and dependence on technology over the passage of time, and asks what responsibilities owning something can hold.

Solarized Not Orchids

In 1952 Alan Turing wrote a paper titled "The Chemical Basis of Morphogenesis" in which he described a theory of how patterns, such as dots or stripes, can arise in homogeneous systems under certain conditions.

In this generative art work a compressible fluid flow is colored and stirred by a multi-scale Turing pattern. A bilateral symmetry is imposed.

The colors are re-mapped by a function reminiscent of the "solarization" technique in photography.

The result is most definitely not an orchid.

This work is 8000 by 8000 pixels in JPEG format.

In the inaugural episode, we share our hopes for this podcast. Born out of the most recent bull market, we want to get back to relaxing, being creative, letting our hair down, and having some fun again! Many of us have a hangover from the ultra-manic, speculation-driven madness of 2021-2021. The Dankness is designed to cure that hangover with an offering that is intentionally experimental and designed to show the more human side of the many amazing participants in the NFT community. 

While some of you may know us, episode zero is designed to give a bit of our background and to introduce ourselves to those of you we havent met yet (welcome!). Artnome gives his life story and explains how it all leads up to being an early part of CryptoArt, NFTs, and this podcast! Sickles shares a bit about his background as a documentary film maker and what it has been like to spend the last two years interviewing hundreds of the most talented and interesting people in the NFT community for what will become the definitive documentary on this culture. We end the episode by returning to a question Artnome first asked in early 2018 What is CryptoArt?

Friendship Bracelets by Alexis Andr

Since founding Art Blocks in 2020, artist Erick Calderon (a.k.a. Snowfro) has been intrigued by the idea of representing digital artwork in the physical world in the form of an ephemeral physical object with meaning, but with no inherent value. 

Donald Judd has long been an inspiration for Art Blocks. One aspect we admire most about Judds artistic practice is the elegance of design he effortlessly paired with the accessibility of materials that could be found at a hardware store. With Judd as inspiration, we hatched a plan to create a unique generative art friendship bracelet that includes instructions to make, in minutes, a simple bracelet using a few dollars worth of embroidery floss. Donald Judd believed that what surrounds us in our day-to-day life is already so beautiful, and that ultimately the experience of creating art is as important as owning it.

Erick was incredibly excited to collaborate with renowned artist Alexis Andr (a.k.a. MacTuitui) to bring generative art and ephemeral physical objects together in the form of friendship bracelets. Conceptualized by Erick and aesthetically and programmatically designed by Alexis, this project pairs creative coding with a beautiful spectrum of embroidery floss colors. The project was a true team effort, as each member of the Art Blocks team designed and named their own color palette!

The project is a token of our appreciation to the creators, makers, builders, and collectors who have all contributed to making the Art Blocks community what it is today. Participating in this project is a signal, both online and IRL, that youre a participant in this evolution of art + community. You are pushing the best ideas forward. You are the reason all of these imaginative projects come to life. Our community is what makes all of this possible. So, to say it plainly, we appreciate you, and we hope that youll accept this bracelet as a token of our special friendship!

INTERFERENCES is about reordering the elements, altering the parts that make up the shapes and identifying the possibilities of color ordering.
Here, the variability is found in the subtle, seeking to challenge the sensitive vision of the viewer, generating displacement effects, or simply proposing a minimal visual design.

Interferences is an excuse to return to color theories from the Bauhaus and Latin American cinetics artist, that made up the artistic avant-garde of the 1950s. From there, the project seeks to continue developing on the relative characteristics of color: those situations in which our experience of the color changes according to the context. How to use color? It"s not what colors, but how colors are used that define artists.

The instability appears as a game in the work on the form, breaking out the circle as a standard of harmony and perfection. How far can you continue to recognize a shape? It is this instability that suggests movement, like a photograph of a moment in the sequence, waiting to be completed.

What characteristics does the work of art of web3.0 must have? That was one of the questions that motivated this work. There could be several answers, but I think one of them would definitely have to do with the possibility of change: is not a jpg, is not a .mov: it is a piece of software that you can touch and modify, find new possible outputs and play with variability.

Interferences is a project of #purevisibility: there is no message. There is experience.
