ku no kao or "Many Faces" 
This master ninja assassin's real identity is unknown, he is known simply as Oku no kao or "many faces".  As a ninja of unparalleled skills, there are very few who have seen him in the flesh and lived.  However, one specific eyewitness account reported that while battling 4 opponents at once, his somen (war mask) was knocked off only to reveal another mask beneath.  One legend proposes that he is cursed, and that as soon as he removes his mask, his face immediately contorts and freezes creating a new one, damning him to forever wear a mask.  The more common theory is that he is perhaps a prominent member of society and is so protective of his true identity that he wears multiple masks to ensue his anonymity.  The truth and his motivations, remain a mystery.
