Power vs Meaning by Gavin Shapiro

Power vs Meaning is a conceptual blockchain artwork based on historian Yuval Noah Hararis idea that modern society is a deal in which humans agree to give up meaning in exchange for power. The series consists of two looping animations (Power and Meaning), each minted as an edition of 8 NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain. Playing on the idea of utility and collector rewards as prevalent themes in the NFT space, holders of Power will be granted the power to reward themselves with an additional edition of their NFT whenever they wish. Meaning, on the other hand, is simply a piece of art, and holders will not be granted any sort of utility or rewards. During the primary sale, collectors must choose between one or the other and are not able to bid on both. A social experiment that will only be able to fully tell its story as people interact with it, Power vs Meaning asks viewers to confront their own motivation for collecting NFTs in the first place. While Power offers utility, interaction, collector rewards, a rarity system based on exponential growth, and the potential for a community to organically form and evolve, Meaning offers nothing but the chance to own a digital penguin that infinitely waddles towards some sort of glowing metaphor for human motivation. Experimental

All the art pieces are created for a purpose. Some for beauty, some for stories, and some for the sake of creating. My latest work LOST IN TRANSLATION is an art piece designed to express the sense of understanding that I have been missing for a long time.  
 
In the last 2 years, I always felt like my words and feelings were not important to others in this space. So little cared but the general opinion was to avoid me cause I was so dull. (That was what I thought) But then I realized that my words were actually lost in the translation like many of you and my works wasnt good enough to fill that gap.


Most of us are trying to talk in a language that we are not used to it much before. People from all over the world who have different cultures, habits, feelings, and different goals are gathering around 1 single need; the need of being understood.

But as we try to be understood more we focus more on marketing techniques, being active in spaces, learning the English better, trying to trick the algorithm, and so on and so on.

And we end up forgetting why we set out. We are not trying to produce, we are trying to prove to ourselves that we can produce. We are changing more and more, in the wrong direction.

That's why we need Art more than ever these days. Art, which has never lost its value at any point in history, is the only tool that will heal us, meet our needs, and make us understand.

If we start listening to our own inner voice instead of the marketing tactics of others, get to know ourselves, and try to convey what we really want to express through Art, then we will be one step closer to being understood.

No tactic is more powerful, more impressive than a true work of art.

When we understand this, I believe success will come right after. But for this, you don't need to learn any language. That was my biggest mistake!  
 
Dont create for others, dont create to sell, and dont try to prove anything to anyone. Forget the words, marketing techniques, the trick, and everything you learned before. Listen to your inner self and stick to your art.
