On The Way Down is the first song I"ve produced in years... 
I"ve co-produced all my songs with other musicians and I"m usually very hands on with the mix, but I haven"t sat down and made a beat until last May. On the living room floor in Lisbon, I sang into a loop machine, trying to prove my worth to someone whose heart has already left me.

The lyrics talked about time lost being apart, 
message received, 
and next time on the way down, I won"t follow. 

fun fact, It was written around the same time LUNA crashed.

This is the third and final song off of Private Room EP, my genesis music NFT release.

KarmaVioletta

Hiii, we are KarmaVioletta! We"re a traveling music duo couple, involved in the Web3, creator & wellness spaces. We believe in a world where a kid can tell their parents, "I want to be a musician, artist or creator," & there"s a viable path to that. We were formed in 2019 in Miami, after we fell in love and started creating in our home studio. We feel that we are all in this human experience together, so let"s dance :)

Karma, born in Vancouver, raised in Hawaii & Miami, comes from a musical family, having learned to play the drums at age 3, followed by guitar, singing & piano. In 2012, he first discovered Ableton and that took him down the rabbit hole, which he re-surfaced from as a producer, singer/ songwriter, sound engineer & DJ.     Violetta (Vee-oh-letta), born in Germany, raised in Russia & America, learned to play the piano & guitar at a young age. Shes been singing her whole life & started songwriting in 2017, which also led her into co-producing & DJing.

This is our very first drop on Sound.xyz from our duo project. We got into Web3 via Karma.wav red-pilling Violetta at NFT NYC last year, Nov 2021. During that trip, we met up with the Songcamp fam IRL & had our first studio session together. We are now both a part of their most recent camp of 77 members, Camp Chaos, the headless band. Right around that same time we started wavWRLD, through which we are building infrastructure to enable unique musical experiences that connect artists with their true fans.

We wrote this song in the beginning of our relationship, about 3 years ago. It encompasses those moments of butterflies & excitement, but slight fear at the same time, when you realize that youve already fallen so deeply for this person, your person. So Deep also represents gratitude for all that has come beforehand, including past relationships, as they were filled with hard lessons that prepared you & got you to where you are now, with who you are now. They got you to a much better place. Only you know whats best for you, so trust yourself & remember to do you & love YOU first, then everything else will fall into place.

TOKiMONSTA

Music is a universal language--truly loved by all. Through creating this song, both Morgxn and I were able to find some peace during these tumultuous times.  

The origin story: The introduction actually began at a Halloween party hosted at Charli XCX"s home. Fast forward to the pandemic, Morgxn sends me a very special vocal he had written in London just before the lockdown. The message and lyrics resonated so deeply that I had to create a song that truly represented how I felt.

Though the song was written before our society shutdown--it had more meaning during.  This song is about the idea of craving touch that feels euphoric and cathartic. After dealing with 2 years of physical separation from our loved ones, this song is a celebration of togetherness and our love for each other.

I wrote this song when my then fiancee went to Switzerland for work. 

Yup, that"s all I have to say about that.

More about PAISLEY....

In 2017, I had a thought, patterns prevail. It was derivative of a quote from my best friend and frequent collaborator, Sky Welkin, which read passion prevails. Sky is a talented cartoonist that embeds profound messages like this throughout his work.

During our college years, hed often come by and draw while I made beats, this was our ghetto co-working era, and in these sessions wed smoke, engage in discourse, and share ideas about the respective worlds we were building in our art. In fact, I was very much into doing something new each album, but Sky was the primary influence for me to get into world-building and having a particular sense of style that was cultivated over time.

In one of my college apartments, I decided that to let Sky use all of the walls in my room as a canvas - the few hundred dollars that Id spend to have the room repainted when I moved was minuscule compared to the living art piece around me. Every so often I would discover some new character scene or phrase that hed drawn without me noticing, but one of these phrases was placed in such a way that I couldnt miss it as soon as I woke up, passion prevails.

Web3 has offered much in the form of expansion for the experiential qualities and monetization of my art. We always say things like, time passes quickly in web3.

As much as I agree, I find it interesting that time also seems to stay still - art is appreciated for its beauty regardless of age and with the possibilities available to me with NFTs, something like my debut album, can no experience a new form of appreciation.

As I begin to release works from the PAISLEY collection over time, it was only fitting that I began with the short film.

When I was working on the album, I connected with my friend and collaborator, Dawit N.M. to share the pattern theories I was creating from and what I was aesthetically into at the time. Dawit went on to handle the art direction for the album, as well as bringing my convoluted story concept to life as a film.

The story of PAISLEY exists in a universe in which we"ve all been made to forget true selves. Though, there are those of us that break free and reawaken, remembering all the knowledge of self that was once lost. A human that knows who they are can no longer be controlled and is thus a threat to those in power.

This is the case for our protagonists Figaro and Paisley. The pair, bound by fate, seek each other out in parallel universes with the hope to awaken their companion and continue their journey towards freedom. Our short film finds Figaro, moments after being awakened by Paisley, and follows them towards their attempted escape.

The PAISLEY album and short film are an allegory for patterns at every level of life. Just as cells make up organisms and organisms make up the planets, and the planets the universe, and so on - patterns, appear, reshape, and reappear until their purpose in your life is realized. In my album I explore the different patterns in my relationships and my relationships as patterns, that were required for me to grow individually.

This year marks the 3 year anniversary of the PAISLEY collection, with the short film has only been screened at live performances and intimate talks. Now it will all be immortalized on the blockchain.

It"s an ode to our realignment as two lovers, parents, friends, creators on a long walk home, the music is our soundtrack.

The Talking Palm Tree

This was the first ever track I fully self-produced that didn"t sound like a basicbish beat. It was also the first music I made after completely abandoning & deleting my old artist project. Something awakened, literally over night. The Talking Palm Tree was essentially the official doula for the birth of ALYSS and the first offering from my upcoming Answers EP (track 1/5).

At the time of writing the lyrics, I was learning about the Lilith archetype in both astrological and mythological terms. Symbolically, Lilith represents everything natural, raw and untouched. She is the place of total freedom within each of us. The place we are unashamedly who we are without limitation, self-judgement or fear of what the world thinks. Energetically, she is the unconfined wild side we"ve locked away and after having caged myself creatively for so long, discovering her felt like a huge kick up the ass to all the blocks Id built up inside.

The same way she initiated a dormant voice within me through "The Talking Palm Tree, it only felt right that she lay the ground for my genesis footstep into the terrain of web3. May this song activate a core essence within you. We see you <3

Answers came to me unexpectedly one summer morning at 2 am. I was in a trance, playing the chords repeatedly until the lyrics seemed to write themselves. It felt like the words were given to me before I fully understood them. At that time, I had been reflecting on the idea that our reality could be part of a grand experiment, a giant holographic pulse. Everything I was reading and listening to seemed to hint at this concept. The purpose being to disconnect us from the truth of who we are, through the limitations of the human body, societal programming, and cycles of suffering, to see if we remember. But what do we remember? I believe the answer can never be expressed in words. It"s a felt sense that we all glimpse from time to time. At the deepest level, I think we have all, at a soul level, agreed to be part of this game, not to seek escape, but to fully immerse ourselves in every facet of it, knowing that it is, in fact, just a game.

Breaking The Cycle

Releasing this song feels like a necessary detour. I try my best to be as vulnerable as possible in my music but this was something I didnt know how to say even though I knew it was necessary. I am many things. A man, a son, a brother, a friend, a musician. But above all else I am a father. That is my ultimate purpose. To lead by example for my sons. To teach them how to maneuver in a world not inherently designed for them to win. To break the cycle.

My journey throughout Web 3 thus far has been a time of affirmation (shoutout to Scolla.) Its been a time of growth, learning, and healing. Its been a time of not always doing the easiest (or most politically correct) thing, but having faith that it is the right thing as I continue forward.

I feel like Im at the crossroad of stepping into my future and healing from my past, all while remaining present. I am working through my struggles in realtime - through music - and I hope that anyone who reads this understands that I am not defined by my circumstances, and neither are you. This has been a season that I feel is coming to a close. So although I am excited to share this piece of my story with you, I am equally as excited to have you with me as the rest of the story unfolds.

One thing that Web 3 has taught me is to better vocalize my needs. To not be afraid to say that I am not ok, or that I need help because we are not meant to walk alone.

I have been dealing with a traumatic situation involving my children and my family and I am thankful that I have the love and support to be able to say that I need help as I give this offering. I called this a necessary detour because thats exactly how it feels. Like stopping for gas on a road trip. Knowing that this path is meant for me but that I had to take a second to address my needs and decompress before driving again.

So to anyone reading this, thank you for supporting me. Thank you for continuing to uplift me and remind me of my worth in the times when I may forget. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to support my family by doing something I love. And thank you for helping me break the cycle.

Avamarie is a recording artist deeply inspired by R&B and soul music and loves writing about relationship experiences in her life.

December

This is my second release on Sound.xyz and my final drop of 2022. "December" feels like the perfect conclusion to my year in Music NFTs. Originally released in 2019 as part of a Winter EP, it is now exclusively available on Sound. 

"December" is a small, intimate song that hints at the colder months and a longing for a time and place where all of life"s worries, regrets and complications melt away. A song to remind you to live in the moment. I hope it reaches the ears of many people and finds homes in the hearts that connect with it the most.  

This month, my heart swelled with pride at the collective coming together of artists, creators and our community as we shared our thoughts around this new landscape and considered what it means to release music on the blockchain. As an independent artist, I choose how I move through the space, who I work with and where I want my music to exist. What I value the most is being empowered to choose for myself. I choose to be a part of the Sound ecosystem and I"m proud to be a part of their community of artists.
