As an artist who jumps around from genre to genre, I found that I hadnt dropped a lot of acoustic records. I write so many songs just to guitar and produce them out once Ive done my thing, but I never release them stripped. And with a rock project on the horizon I figured now would be an amazing time to let go a record like Fumes.

I wrote this record in my bedroom and wanted to make it feel classic and timeless, but also spicy. Its about trying to keep up with someone youre captivated by even if their life moves a little faster than yours. Its crazy what we do for love or lust. I mean who hasnt gotten high just to impress someone theyre feeling, knowing damn well its going to make the rest of the night an anxious whirlwind of overthinking. Lord knows I have and Ill do it again.

I came up with the hook while hanging at my place with my homie Miles Wesley. We bounced off each other until we dialled in a hook that felt perfect even without any production behind it. Later on when I was alone I freestyled on the mic for verse ideas until the verse was done. When Im trying to give a song the secret sauce and have it feel fresh I generally dont write anything down and come up with everything while recording. This song is cool to me because I mixed classic songwriting (just me and Miles singing in the room while he strummed the guitar) and my hiphop driven, off the cuff style of freestyle writing.

After the song was written I had my producer homies finish the music, get the guitar sounding perfect and add some subtle textures around the vocals. Shoutouts Tarro, Zailor and Blake Straus. Then I had the vocal goat Chris TEK ORyan mix it and get me sounding crispy but also keep it very honest and true. And finally, I got it mastered by the best in the game, Becker.

my first drop on this site took place while i was in Malibu at a writing camp put on by Daniel Allan.  at the camp i was surrounded by a variety of artists, each with their own skill sets, backgrounds, and techniques.  it was exhausting, but just what i needed.  

for months leading up to the camp i was stuck in a very trying relationship.  this took up most of my mental bandwidth.  i couldn"t seem to finish a single song.  it drove me fucking crazy.  a switch flipped for me at the camp.  i noticed quickly that each of these artists had their own very specific way of doing things.  it would be nearly impossible to find parallels between their workflows.  working alongside them reminded me that there are no right answers in art.  "how does it feel?" is the only question worth my concern.

immediately upon returning home, i started writing again.  i was met with that beautiful mania that only takes hold when i"m working on something meaningful to me.  i was finishing songs again, and fast.  this is the first of many.
