Working with AI art sometimes feels like gazing into a pond of water. In a still pond, we see a clear, gently blurred version of ourselves staring back at us, while turbulent waters return rippled echoes of our shape. These changing reflections of ourselves are similar to images generated from data, which can be hyperrealistic depictions of the original, or images that are surreal and barely recognizable, as errors creep in. This exhibition looks at the way artists represent nature and humans, using the latest machine learning technologies to conjure seascapes, imaginary marine creatures, autumn leaves, and musings on the human form. Masks and faces akin to the grotesque rear their heads, reminding us of the early errors of these technologies and the eternal human fascination with depicting ourselves. These artists present AI as a tool to craft new reflections on perennial subjects, as well as a creative partner, conjuring new landscapes, creatures, and forms. Luba Elliott

Feral File  Reflections in the Water

Mal Som&rsquo;s &ldquo;Strange Fruit&rdquo; is a masquerade of unfamiliar faces, appearing in a boldly colored procession with varied degrees of realism and abstraction. Blurry forms are replaced by four-eyed mask-like faces in a rhythm that takes us on a journey both frightening and introspective. The artwork explores the phenomenon of &ldquo;mode collapse,&rdquo; when only a single type of image is produced. It is not fully understood why this happens, only that it is a constant occurrence&mdash;the only constant in latent space. Som trains the model until a full collapse happens and then iterates on the dataset with augmenting, duplicating, and looping in generated images from previous instances to steer the collapse. This gives the series of images a certain sense of fragility and determination at the same time.

LUX is a collection of 176 photographs split into four distinct phases. The sun's eleven-year oscillation is a dynamic unifying factor for all phases. Similar to four movements of a larger composition, each phase is a closed system. The images contained in a phase presaged the others. They cycle across tokens but are restricted to their own set of loops. Still, a few have broken out and remain petrified.

A conceptual art project that explores labor, productivity, and compensation. Buy a time card, the artist will be unproductive, and then youll receive the proof.

Each PONW Time Card is initially blank and may be redeemed by sending the card to the ponw.eth wallet address. Once a Time Card has been received by the artist at the ponw.eth address, it will be queued up for fulfillment. When the card's turn has arrived, the artist will then punch in using the physical card on a Time Clock device before then spending an unspecified amount of time doing absolutely no work whatsoever. After the session of no work has been completed, the artist will punch out using the card, scan it, and then update the NFTs data before sending it back to the owner. The card will be numbered, signed, and include a brief hand-written description of the no work that was rendered. The entire process is done manually by hand.

ZENTRUM is a dynamic, endlessly running abstract animation made of structural elements and random codes. The random generator ensures that each endless loop is unique. For ZENTRUM, Franke had to make do with the limited computing capacity that a home computer offered at the time. Despite this limitation, it was important to him to develop moving sequences even in his first programs for the Apple II. He considered the movement to be a pioneering digital innovation. The combination of dynamic image sequences and music, as well as the interactivity, were already groundbreaking in his MONDRIAN program code, developed in 1979 for the Texas Instruments home computer.
