Post Photographic Perspectives is Fellowship's inaugural group show celebrating a new wave of innovation in photography.

Some questions that are always at the forefront of my art practice: how do my images relate to the images that precede and surround them; what expectations are we bringing to images, and how are these expectations established & reinforced; what purpose do these expectations serve and how can we interact with these expectations?

AI image generators are a fascinating new tool for exploring these questions because they create images based upon a dataset of hundreds of millions of preexisting imagery but are otherwise unfettered by the preexisting expectations of visual culture. That is, they make new images based on predictions from all the images (and image tags) that precede them. However, they are not otherwise bound by human logic or cultural codes and therefore make images that reflect these codes in surprising and often challenging ways, like a funhouse mirror.

There is a beautiful collapse of category distinctions and a dynamic interplay between un-indoctrinated naivety and an appreciation of precedent.

Distance is a series of computational artworks created by French artist William Mapan, generated randomly on chain. Volume 5 of The Los Angeles County Museum of Arts Remembrance of Things Future initiative, in which contemporary artists experimenting with blockchain technology are invited to respond to works in the museum, Distance is Mapans homage to Paul Klees iconic 1914 watercolor, In the Kairouan Style, Transposed in a Moderate Way, in LACMAs encyclopedic collection. Made in support of LACMA's Art and Technology Lab in collaboration with Cactoid Labs, Distance is an exploration of color, form and the ability of code to give rise to painterly, organic textures that resolve into abstracted aerial landscapes. Distance is about standing back from what you see. I was reflecting on my past works and it is always about my personal experience. It is about seeing the bigger picture.

Each artwork of this unique collection is composed of a unique video created using artificial intelligence algorithms, based on the movements of a dancer, sublimed by an aesthetic inspired from the four seasons represented by four emblematic ballets. The video is accompanied by a unique music for each artwork, composed with the help of other algorithms. Each artwork is unique, both visually and musically, and presents a dreamt ballet, an algorithmic choreography in which the stage is set for pure creation, and for the magic of the moment. The room grows dark and quiet, then, from the movements choreographed with precision, emerges a sensation, a sharing, an invitation to enter another dimension.

An extension of his ongoing Caryatid series (2004), Paul Pfeiffers first NFT collection, Vs., transports the viewer to the boxing ring utilizing found footage from two historic boxing matchesPacquiao vs. Horn and Pacquiao vs. Mayweather. To create each piece, Pfeiffer has taken existing televised footage and digitally erased Pacquiaos opponent, leaving the viewer to witness a man viscerally struggling, resisting, suffering, and at times prevailing over an unseen foe. The series consists of two long-form video works (each an edition of 5 plus 1 AP) and 150 short-form clips (each unique and variable in duration)both of which come with file formats for image and video. This collection contains the short-form videos.

Noah Pred - Insolvency (Thirst Principles)

Monochrome open edition featuring ambient sonification elements.

Oil and water do not mix. Our biosphere and bodies require water; the Anthropocene as we know it continues to thirst for oil. Can the accelerating breakdown of global climate systems be understood through the lens of this elemental incompatibility?

Constructed with custom sonification tools developed by Pred in Max/MSP, nearly all musical components of the piece are generated from data sets exploring the impact of petroleum on our waterways and ice caps, access to drinking water, hydropower usage, and the price of crude oil.

The goal is not to translate these data points in a literal way, but to use them as starting points for creative exploration. If data is the new oil, can it fuel creativity - not just capture profit? Aside from the biases so often inherent in its collection, data tends to be corrupted in its expression, collapsing reality into abstraction. Composing with arbitrary musical outputs generated from these data sets reflects the dubious nature of much contemporary data usage.

Visualized by the artist in TouchDesigner, freely available drone footage of oil fields and processing facilities are contrasted with aquatic elements, manipulated and depicted in the bounds of a truncated circle, overlaid with pixelated data trails implying the degrading effect of digitized information itself.
