How do I take these self-portraits?

They are a combination of 2 images. I take one shot of the overall scene which is typically a long exposure shot to smooth out any water and clouds in the sky. I then take a second shot of myself as the subject and combine them together in photoshop. Since I am often adding a long exposure technique to my images, I can"t pose for more than a few seconds without visible movement in my hair or dress. I use a remote on my phone that connects to my camera to take the photo.

About the artist - Sarah is a passionate environmental self-portrait and landscape photographer. Based in the beautiful Canadian Rockies, she is widely known for her signature yellow dress, long exposure work, and bubbly personality.

A steady climb to a picturesque subalpine meadow reveals one the most extraordinary peaks in the Canadian Rockies. During winters coldest months, ice textures shift and shape daily, creating magical scenes juxtaposed against a breathtaking mountain backdrop.

On my second journey there in a week, I was rewarded by a full moon creeping over snow-capped peaks. Each prominent ridge-line curved up to the sky leading to the moon placed so perfectly in the night.  Below, snow billowed like pillow tops rolling and glimmering in ethereal light while a shimmering frozen river wound with feathered textures reflected the skys luminance.

To be alone in this place brings one closer to their innermost self.  A place where dreams and reality converge under the stars.

The world seems dark and hopeless. But amidst the destruction and suffering, we need to hold onto a glimmer of light. The light of humanity shining through in acts of kindness and bravery. The light of resilience in the face of adversity.

It"s hard to be thankful when there are countless others who are experiencing the immeasurable pain and uncertainty. But united, we can support each other.

Let us hold on to the hope that better days are ahead. That the sun will rise again and bring with it a new dawn. Let us not lose faith in the kindness and goodness of the human spirit.

While still on earth, let us live a life worth of purpose - even after we are long gone.

RESILIENCE

One of the most important pieces in my collection. An extraordinary view of my favorite tree at night. This photograph is unique because it was the first time I went out to photograph after my back surgery. My wife was carrying my camera bag and tripod, as I couldn"t lift them yet. I placed the tripod in the shallow water and asked my wife to pose for me with a flashlight in her hand. After a long exposure, I was amazed at how the photograph turned out. It reminds me of the moment when you are drifting into sleep.

Balance

Under the moonlight, the light can be extraordinary. The slight breeze from the sea adds a subtle movement to the otherwise still waters, adding to the overall serene mood of the view. I was drawn to a pine tree standing alone in the foreground, its branches reaching the sky. The interplay of light and shadow on the tree was mesmerizing, and I knew I had to capture the moment. The interplay of light and shadow, combined with the beauty of the pine tree, creates a captivating photograph that invites the viewer to pause and appreciate the moment"s serenity.
