Natural Intelligence, in opposition to Artificial Intelligence, represents the optimism of eco-technologies. Far from super calculators, Nature solves each problem in a unique way, in real time. Somehow, it is the future of technology.

The pages were created on a day to day basis and I live shared the creative process of me making the book page by page on social media.  This project really had an impact on my trajectory, as the fresh style got a-lot of attention and the new work flow significantly altered my outlook and creative process. Each page, as well as the front and back cover,  have been tokenized via a sovereign contract on the blockchain.

"We paint what seems to rise, then fall: The light, which streams, untouchable."

Drawing inspiration from Sol LeWitts observation that the most interesting characteristic of the cube is that it is relatively uninteresting, *Ateliers* transforms the mundane cube into a dynamic expression of the creative process. By breaking the cube into its subsidiary partitions, the algorithm generates a malleable space where boundaries are removed and the artist is free to explore without constraint. Through the play of planes and edges, *Ateliers* tells a story of artistic evolution and the endless pursuit of new possibilities. 

The algorithm builds upon a process Ive used for many years, where I generate an underpainting and then give the computer freedom to sift through the pixel array and select elements to surface for the final image. The challenge, though, is that I end up with a linear array of points that begins at the top of the screen and runs to the bottom. For this series, I wanted to render the work in a more interesting way, and not simply paint lines back and forth down the screen. After numerous experiments, I had the thought to use a nearest-neighbor type of sorting. This allows the paint to follow a more organic path through the pixels, and furthers my goal to incorporate the human hand into my work with the computer.

Postales is a generative art project that explores the depths of memories and experiences, where colors and shapes become a visual language of poetry. Each piece is a unique creation, born from the same algorithm using shaders to create a harmonious blend of tones and shades. Imagine each generated piece as a postcard sent from the past, a memory frozen in time. It invites reflection on the stories of our lives, where each color is a note in a melody, a song sung in silence, a story told through contemplation. The shapes in this project take on a new dimension, becoming a visual language written with shadows, light, strokes, and curves. For the first time, I have used color palettes that escape monochromatic, adding a new layer of depth to the visual language.Postales is a project that invites reflection and introspection, a poetic exploration of human experiences through the use of colors and shapes. Each piece is unique, created from the same algorithm, and speaks to us about our history and humanity. This project is an invitation to look at our past and ourselves in a new way, and to discover the beauty and emotion that can be found in the memories and experiences that shape us.

Inspired by mosaic pattern work and expressionism, Mbius inverts a trend of generative art, imperfect detailing. Instead using perfect detailing to make an imperfect whole. By playing with this idea it asks us to reevaluate these norms. Does our fascination with imperfection run deeper, beyond simple analog emulation?

By evoking tidal oceans, landmasses and typhoons composed of granular geometry, Mbius sets out to draw parallels with nature. Exposing our attraction to imperfection as something universal and atomic.

*Wayfinder* is a 2.5d experiment: an infinite extruder that generates an ongoing stack of 2d shapes.
 
The beginning of this project dates back to the involvement of the artists in a visual exploration undertaken for a previously commissioned project. Their task was to envision futuristic languages and signage systems for a science fiction film. This research laid the foundation for this new long-term project, where the artists retained the concept of layering and reimagined it by developing a new and efficient code.

circles is a generative script composed on a letter-sized piece of paper (8.5 x 11). while circles is a digital artwork, the material of the piece refers to the dithering found when printing on common b/w laser printers. each output is a step by step guide on how to draw a circle ... programmatic interferences of time and light distorts each attempt to render a circle(s) creating compositions of imperfection with hopes to create something new.

It is somewhat similar to Japanese poetry, when a minimum of words are immersed in a whole universe of sensations. The Textures series, I explore just such subtle states.

Particle systems have always held a special place in my heart. The inherent simplicity of each particle and the complexity of what emerges is a theme I have always enjoyed exploring. \
With *Drift*, I continue this exploration and delve deeper into the intricacies of one such system, to see what emotions it can evoke. 


To export a PNG, I recommend adding a size parameter to the query string, such as &size=4000 to define the longer size, and then pressing "s" after the rendering is complete. Also, please check the console for rendering and saving information.


The piece is computationally expensive and requires an adequate GPU.

It is important to understand that due to the complexity of the simulation, the result may look different across different devices. This variation is primarily due to the different capabilities of each device"s GPU. Therefore, the uniqueness of each viewing experience is not only a product of the hash but also the inherent unpredictability and variation in hardware capabilities. Please be mindful of this while enjoying *Drift*.

Lake Festival is the culmination of my work over the past year to capture impressionism on a 2D JavaScript canvas. Through randomness, this piece can explore the styles and moods of several impressionist masters with different paint mixes, brush strokes, and atmospheric conditions.

You are on the shore of a lake, waiting for the festival to begin. A soft wind blows, and the remains of a storm are passing away.

In art school, I discovered and fell in love with impressionist art. The style of capturing the essence of a scene with bold marks and colors captured my creative curiosity. Throughout my life, I"ve had a spot in my heart for this movement.

As I began my generative art journey, I looked back at these artists, wondering if I could capture the feeling of an impressionist masterpiece with code. Over time and with experimentation, I"ve developed and honed my algorithms to closely mimic true brush strokes and applied color mixing techniques to realistically mimic paint mixing.

Lake Festival is the culmination of my work over the past year to capture impressionism on a 2D JavaScript canvas. Through randomness, this piece can explore the styles and moods of several impressionist masters with different paint mixes, brush strokes, and atmospheric conditions. Iterations range the gamut from hope and joy to melancholy and ominous.

This work is best viewed on a desktop or laptop in a Chromium browser. Due to differences in browser rendering, the same work may have slight differences in the rendering of some brush strokes.

*Interwoven* is a long-form generative art series created by Emily Xie as Vol. 4 of the Los Angeles County Museum of Arts Remembrance of Things Future blockchain initiative. The project is a collaboration with Cactoid Labs in support of LACMAs Art and Technology Lab. 

Made entirely with code, *Interwoven* draws inspiration from the 1986 Bullseye Quilt by Martha Lou Jones in LACMAs collection, meditating on the quilts underlying tension between the computational and handmade through a distinctive patchwork style. The algorithm uses randomness to give rise to creature-like forms in order to embody the narrative elements so integral to the tradition of quilt-making.
