It is my great pleasure to welcome Pell to Sound.xyz with our drop of u know what i mean. 

the first demo of this song was recorded way back in 2016. Pell and I met for the first time that year and in between my touring with Marian Hill we would cook up in LA and leave each session with 2, 3 new songs.

I have such fond memories of us pacing around the studio together, listening to Pell freestyle effortlessly and yelling out "thats the hook!" We found a magical chemistry back then that I think you can still feel in the music.

This is the first of two songs from back then that we are finally bringing to the light of day. We got together to put the finishing touches on them a few months ago in NYC, and as we laughed together in my studio it was like no time had passed at all.

This is a fun one. Enjoy responsibly.

Sundreamer

"Sundreamer" represents a bit of a rebirth for me. Going through the loss of my father this past year crushed a lot of my creative spirit. My dad was someone I could always send my demos to and he would use his keen ears to give me feedback. Part of the joy I got from making music was getting to share my work with him. Losing him took a lot out of me. 

Even before my dad got sick, I was on a strange trajectory with music. I was pretty caught up in trying to make music that would perform well on streaming services. Often I would optimize my songs to fit Spotify playlists so I could make a decent income. The downside of that was that I was making quite a few creative sacrifices and just wasnt enjoying what I was making anymore. 

With Sundreamer Im going back to my roots of making music for the joy of it. Im in a new creative chapter now and am shedding that popularity-centric point of view. Music and creativity are so important to me that I need to let them flourish before I worry about anything else. 

Im back to basics, making music that speaks to my soul.

Safeguard was kinda like a culmination of a lot of my fav records from the 2000s, tate fit right on the record and felt like the missing puzzle piece and the song feels like a warm blanket in December. Enjoy - Jon

He sent the track beautifully laced already, I really sat with the notion of Safeguardingromantically, platonically. I wrote "Head Above" at my piano on a rainy LA day. 

Its gone through many revisions (one that even dropped on LNRZ with Bloody White and Clear Eyes). The final version is releasing on DSPs on Jan 27th and it features Reo Cragun. 

Hope you listen and feel like the main character of your own action film.

Lost Here (with CARLIE & HOUNDTRACK)

Sometimes it feels like youre lost even when you know exactly where you are.

"Lost Here" has been in the works for a while - I was working on my first project since being injured and reached out to Houndtrack to collab. We sent Carlie an early version of the instrumental to record on, and she literally wrote & recorded the vocals in two days. We ended up going back-and-forth countless times and eventually created a completely different instrumental & track that all three of us are super happy to share. 

This track is a reminder to trust the process, even if it takes time.
