Poland is home to Michael"s ancestors, the birthplace of both his paternal and maternal great grandparents. His photography journey began in Toronto and eventually took him on his first trip to Poland (represented here by Gdask) where he worked with the Tourism Board. When his passion and work had finally led him to Poland, he knew his family would be proud.

Believe In Film

As I stroll through the charming cobbled streets of Montmartre in Paris, I keep one earbud in listening to the sound of Cole Porter"s timeless music, the other ear open to the sounds of the street. In my hands is my trusty Leica camera, loaded with Kodak Portra 800.

As the golden hour light bathes the streets ahead in a warm glow, I paused at a small cafe, watching the people around me, looking for the decisive moment to capture. This couple looked like they had stepped out of the 1940s, walking arm-in-arm toward the magic light. I took these three frames of them as they walked away...praying my settings were correct. The anticipation of returning home to develop these images was already on my mind. 

With my Leica, I can capture the most minor details - a fleeting expression, a subtle gesture - that convey the moment"s essence.  
Montmartre is a place that has inspired countless artists and writers over the years, and as I take my photographs, I feel a sense of connection to them, the creativity and passion that has flowed through this place for generations.

My sense of accomplishment grows with each frame, knowing I am capturing something new, freezing moments in time. As the light fades and the day draws close, I know these photographs will be a lasting record of my time in this magical place. I am now immortalizing these frames on the blockchain, further cementing this memory"s longevity.

Montmartre On Film, I

I made this image on a hot August afternoon, standing in the middle of Broadway and Grand in New York City. A thunderstorm moves in above Manhattan, and the city"s characters migrate from one side of the street to the other. Woolworth building looming in the distance down Broadway, women sharing umbrellas while checking out each other"s styles. 

A moment frozen in time with my Leica on Kodak Portra 400...now minted on the blockchain.

On Broadway...

The scene was set on a hot August afternoon in Brooklyn, as the sun beat down on the pavement. A shirtless skater looked up at the Manhattan Bridge looming in the background, its steel structure shining in the bright sunlight. 

He kick-pushed, picking up speed approaching the ledge. The onlookers, some with iPhone in hand, watched in awe as he jumped into the air, spinning his board with precision and grace. The board spins 360 degrees as the one foot guides it and the other kicks out, performing a perfect kick flip. The board lands back on the pavement with a satisfying clack that all skaters know.

The scene is captured on film, freezing this moment in time. The skater"s movement, the steel structure of the Manhattan Bridge, the onlookers recording the scene on their iPhone, all are captured in this one frame, creating a unique and powerful image. A scene that would be a nostalgic reminder of a time in the 1970s or 80"s, where the film captured the raw and authentic moments of the city.

Take Flight

My ode to Ansel Adams. 

Using Ilford Pan F+ 50 film stock allowing for a very fine film grain at 50 iso on Medium Format gave me the best opportunity to put my own spin on a classic image of the Yosemite Valley.

Dark Valley

Shot on the West Coast of O"ahu at the Lanikuhonua Cultural Institute in October of 2018. Allowing the palms to cover the entire frame while looking up gave me an abstract yet beautiful view, like Palm Tree fireworks exploding overhead. Using the CineStill 50d film stock reduced the grain and gave a great muted colors to the palms on the overcast sky.

An often captured view that changes with the season. This majestic valley has withstood the test of time and outlasted all who have captured her beauty.
