Building Blocks

Its a collection of musical building blocks that to me represent the things that connect all my favourite music. Whether thats James Blake, The Weeknd or Jamie xx; to me there is a sonic connection between the artists that inspire me which draws from alternative electronic influences. Building blocks gives creators a starting point for when inspiration is running low and you need an imperfect and emotional moment to get your creativity flowing.

i wrote this in the midst of many transitions and a relentless retrograde. i was doing my best to hold everything together, until i realized that maybe if i take my hands off of what i was trying to control, God can put His hand on it and turn it into something greater. 

letting go is liberating. it can be scary, but it will free you. i"m finally realizing that better is always ahead of you if you believe them to be.

this song is being released on Indigenous Peoples Day (shout out to my Native Americans + Cherokee tribe worldwide!!) and also on 10/10, which is the angel number that represents new beginnings. since we have to release before we can receive, i couldnt think of any better day to bring Surrender into the world.

i know i say this all the time, but i am so grateful for all of my collectors!! thank you for carrying me through these transitional times. this truly isnt possible without you.

"Flowers" is a part of an audiovisual collection, in collaboration with Andre Oshea, for my forthcoming EP entitled In The Meantime.

50% of all the sales generated from "In The Meantime" will be placed in a wallet dedicated to supporting organizations combating recidivism rates & helping with bail assistance for non-violent crimes like The Bail Project, Maryland Alliance for Justice Reform, & Baltimore Action Legal Team. We want to be a genuine use case for Music NFTs leading to social impact.

As someone who grew up & started their music career in the mid 90"s (Golden Era / Boom Bap HipHop) I"ve had a large portion of my long term supporters as well as new listeners stumbling on my earlier works who adore and wish I would keep creating music of the same style from those early years. This pertains to Beats (Dutchyyy) & (Rhymes) 

I went into detail about this in much greater context recently, which if you care to understand you should read thru all the descriptions and backstories here:

Reality is, from the very beginning I"ve always been making music that didn"t fit into any specific genre since I don"t just listen or draw inspiration from a single genre.  While most of my music is rooted in the fundamentals of traditional hip hop / beat making.  I"ve always gravitated towards creating instrumentals that can speak for me, that aren"t meant for people to put vocals over. Just genuine self expression minus the pressures of how that art will be received by others.

This external pressure reached an all time high 2012-2014 with supporters getting frustrated I wasn"t releasing new music rapping, and even more so that the Instrumentals I were releasing, weren"t your typical hip hop beats (sidenote: funny years later my style would become a whole genre, branded "Lofi-HipHop")  

After moving from Los Angeles, back to Tampa Bay and then Immediately to NY in 2014, I reunited with my pops after over a decade of having no communication.

Long Story Short,

My Pop"s saw the pressure fans were putting on me and how I was torn between trying to please strangers and wanting to escape the boxes I was always being shoved in and told me that since I was a child, I always marched to the beat of my own drum and never cared what anyone else thought, a trait I inherited from both of Parents as we are all a tad "out there" he told me to ignore all the outside noise and let go, Because the view is better and much more rewarding when truly existing "Off In Our Own World"

I wrote Never Want To Leave about falling in love. It happened at a time in my life where I least expected it. It was a love that burnt quickly and intensely but even in its brevity transformed me and how I saw the world. Its about that initial feeling of falling for someone that feels like a dream that you wish you could stay in forever.
