Bright Moments Flex

INFINITE |  invites an exploration of the dichotomy between vastness and singularity, encapsulating the essence of spatial and dimensional dynamics. Moving from clearly delineated boundaries of color and shape to more nebulous and subjective, like the edges of a thought or feeling. It is an allusion to the ever-expanding nature of our universe, the inconceivable borders that define our cosmic reality.

The project alludes to the exploration of the minutiae, the absolute singular, the elemental. It invites us to broaden our perceptions of both the physical and metaphysical dimensions, as well as our understanding of the world and our place within it. The AI model, once trained, endlessly produces new visuals. The metaphorical ebb and flow of these AI-generated images, their birth, and their subsequent journey into the universe, encourage a meditative state, as if taking part in a digital transcendental journey into the heart of the cosmos.

Visuals are created with Javascript code and custom GAN model, trained by artist. Outputs are generated live with model and code hosted on Blockchain/IPFS.

Bright Moments

The theme of this work is fireworks and festivals, which symbolizes summer in Japan.

With fireworks as the central theme, it consists of the water surface reflecting the fireworks, the city lights in the distance, the silhouettes of the torii gates and arch bridge, and the twinkling lanterns. The shady black background expresses the smoky atmosphere.

The drawing algorithm of the work is inspired by traditional woodblock prints and contemporary scratch art. Base layer is drawn with pale watercolor-like gradation. On top of that, the shady black background is drawn. Then, the outline of the fireworks is carved out.

The color of fireworks is based on a chemical reaction called a flame reaction. The color palette of this work is also composed of typical flame reaction colors or their mixtures. Each color palette is inspired by the four seasons in Japan.

How can one create a work inspired by a city where one has never set foot? Moreover, a place on the other side of the world, whose history and cultural richness are of such dizzying density? I quickly realized that my work could only be imagined, dreamed, imbued with my Western culture, tinged with my distant prejudices. I worked with a visual approach above all, around a few chosen colors, representative tree species, and some clichd symbols: for example, the composition is organized around 3 abstract shapes, including the circle, directly inspired by the rising sun on the flag, the rectangular shape of a kakemono, or a cityscape.
My distant feeling, entirely subjective, towards the city of Tokyo and the few images that came to me, was that of a place where tradition and modernity, nature and urbanism were intimately mixed. Not in opposition, but in an indissoluble tangle, a form of organic fusion despite some contradictions. But also, the place of dramas that history reports to us, such as the earthquake that this year marks the centenary of.
Coming to Tokyo was an old, somewhat intimidating dream for me. I have been here for a few days now, confronting my artistic proposal with the reality of this enigmatic city. I have taken only a few timid steps, cautiously trying to understand snippets of its functioning. Suddenly time stops, because I have perceived the whisper of a tree. I know nothing of the language, but I understand its language.
"Kumono Shingou" means "Cloud Signals" it is the title of a poem by the Japanese author Kenji Miyazawa, who was an agronomist dedicated to the social cause, at a time when successive natural disasters struck the country while modernity transformed it at a dizzying pace.
It is with a sense of grace that I receive this gift of a title for my work, which was given to me by Kazumasa Teshigawara (Qubibi). It is a small door that has opened for me on an element of Japanese culture. This is what Qubibi does: he creates small doors and opens them slightly to allow us to glimpse, with kindness and simplicity, but also in enigmas, a little light and soul, a fleeting spark, a reflection of what, hidden, is the very treasure of humanity.

One cannot absorb a culture, only experience it. Some encounters can connect you to it, much like synapses in your brain connect pieces of information and influence the construction of your being.
Certainly, one does not come to Japan to find answers, but rather to encounter questions. And here I am, in the middle of the night, gazing up at the sky, wondering: what do the clouds want to warn us about? Suddenly, I am enriched by my ponderings. Who am I, here ? A mere dot on this Earth, a human somewhere on the road, from the cradle of Nature en route to our technological and dematerialized utopias.

"L'appel" explores order in the chaos of a battlefield - making sense of the unknown and fleeting world that lies beyond. Randomness, repetition, grids and overarching shapes pull the colors around, hoping to find a sense of wonder through the void.

Following "Dcors", the final act of the Departed series reflects on the fleeting nature of existence, inviting viewers to contemplate how our struggles give shape and meaning to our time on earth.

"transparency" is a generative artwork that explores the connection between the fundamental elements of art and the viewer"s perception of it. square figures, like pixels forming a picture, create prefigurative, fuzzy images with watercolor motifs. through the use of shapes, colors, and composition, the artwork aims to create a visual language inspired by pioneers of various media such as Paul Klee, Anni Albers, Hilma af Klint, and Alexey Pajitnov.

the use of square figures in "transparency" is reminiscent of the basic things we drew as children, creating a sense of nostalgia and simplicity. the overlapping transparent rectangles add a sense of depth and tonal variety to the piece, and incorporation of watercolor effects gives it some lightness. the artwork is an expression of emotion in a way that connects with the viewer on a primal level. it is an exploration of the fundamental relationship between art, emotions and the ability of forms and colors to evolve.

Cargo by Kim Asendorf

**Cargo** is a series of abstract paintings created with animated pixels that are constantly moving without ever repeating. It is painting new patterns on the fly in between macro and micro compositions with a duality of different rhythms and continuous synchronicity. The focus is alternately drawn to detail, then distracted by movement elsewhere and caught up in the overall picture. This rhythm turns the visual complexity into an active experience.

ASDF: My work should offer individual ways of interpretation, or even allow one to find some self in it. It wants to inspire some thoughts about dynamics and systemics and also just mesmerize the audience, capture them in a little fantasy, or just for a brief moment in a state of satisfaction.

Cargo is the latest work in Kim Asendorfs ongoing work series of pixel pattern animations. Starting with [monogrid](https://monogrid.xyz) in 2021, and [Sabotage](https://sabotage.kim) in 2022, both highly conceptual series, therefore visually very raw and unimaginable. Asendorf discovered various interesting details in these works, which eventually became fundamental in his artistic expression.

Cargo is a real time WebGL software written in JavaScript and GLSL. At its core is a flip-flop render buffer, also known as feedback buffer. That means the animation is alternately rendered in two different frame buffers. This technique allows the usage of the previous frame of the animation as an asset in the current rendering, which allows for a series of reactive animation strategies.

An initial image with variable structures and patterns is rendered and subsequently loaded into the frame buffer. A fragment shader is used to apply a set of animation algorithms that make the pixel move and a set of reset algorithms that constantly try to recreate the initial image. The final animation happens in selected containers and is always a combination of two algorithms, one from each set. By regularly animating and partially resetting the pixels, a wide range of movement patterns appear.

Cargo is a responsive and pixel exact artwork and it will fill the screen on any display size, thus changing the total amount of used pixels accordingly. This results in the fact that the detail level in the artwork is changing depending on the dimensions. The overall structure is consistently stretching the x and y axis independently. Single containers scale along the dimensions and offer more pixels to render the patterns at a larger representation compared to a smaller representation. This behavior leads to a brilliance, perfect pixels, a crisp rendering with nothing like compression artifacts.

This software includes the [simplex noise](https://github.com/jwagner/simplex-noise.js) JavaScript implementation by Jonas Wagner and the [cellular noise](https://github.com/stegu/webgl-noise) GLSL code by Stefan Gustavson.

Friendship Bracelets by Alexis Andr

Since founding Art Blocks in 2020, artist Erick Calderon (a.k.a. Snowfro) has been intrigued by the idea of representing digital artwork in the physical world in the form of an ephemeral physical object with meaning, but with no inherent value. 

Donald Judd has long been an inspiration for Art Blocks. One aspect we admire most about Judds artistic practice is the elegance of design he effortlessly paired with the accessibility of materials that could be found at a hardware store. With Judd as inspiration, we hatched a plan to create a unique generative art friendship bracelet that includes instructions to make, in minutes, a simple bracelet using a few dollars worth of embroidery floss. Donald Judd believed that what surrounds us in our day-to-day life is already so beautiful, and that ultimately the experience of creating art is as important as owning it.

Erick was incredibly excited to collaborate with renowned artist Alexis Andr (a.k.a. MacTuitui) to bring generative art and ephemeral physical objects together in the form of friendship bracelets. Conceptualized by Erick and aesthetically and programmatically designed by Alexis, this project pairs creative coding with a beautiful spectrum of embroidery floss colors. The project was a true team effort, as each member of the Art Blocks team designed and named their own color palette!

The project is a token of our appreciation to the creators, makers, builders, and collectors who have all contributed to making the Art Blocks community what it is today. Participating in this project is a signal, both online and IRL, that youre a participant in this evolution of art + community. You are pushing the best ideas forward. You are the reason all of these imaginative projects come to life. Our community is what makes all of this possible.
