The 1850s is a time of important events in history. The Great Exhibition opened in London in 1851. 
The Great Exhibition of 1851 was the nucleus of a new type of fair, the World"s Fairs (Expolar), and broke new ground in many ways. For the first time, many countries around the world participated in the exhibition with their various and unique collections and had the opportunity to introduce their own culture, resources, industry and technology, as well as having the chance to compare themselves with other countries within the framework of that period. In a sense, the Great Exhibition filled a very important gap by enabling interactions between countries for the first time and by preparing the ground for technological developments to be announced worldwide for the first time. The Groynes of County Down was created at Murlough Beach, Newcastle, County Down, N. Ireland.   

This is one of those images that I was very fortunate to capture.  I had originally travelled to this location to capture a sunset image, but the sky and lack of colour in it, forced me to look for something different.  I was drawn to these sea groynes and decided on this black and white composition.  The long exposure enabled me to smooth out the sea water rushing through the groynes and allowed me to capture the movement of the clouds in the sky.

I titled this piece with a subtle play on the fact that if you took the shortest route from A to B throughout this scene, it is a contrasting prospect to the road that has been constructed here. The twists & turns at ground level may seem perfectly logical, but from this unique aerial perspective, it"s anything but.. and yet, there is always a reason, a purpose, to make such illogical things make sense. The same can often be said for life itself.

Golden Gap by Win Magsino

In 2018 I won an international photo contest that gave me an opportunity to shoot some of the most epic locations in the USA. The Golden gate Bridge, in San Francisco Bay, considered one of the most photographed bridges in the world was on my top list. My self-challenge then was to do a fresh take, which I did. This shot is to date, one of my most successful and popular - my first image featured in National Geographic as the Top shot and an Editors Spotlight in 2018, and, a favorite in my social media gallery. It also paved the way for new doors of opportunity in my photographic journey.

The winter in the Netherlands is a hit or miss! Because we live near the sea, we have a mild climate. This usually means that the snow days can be counted on one hand. But in 2021, we had one of the coldest weeks I could remember! It was only for 1.5 weeks but it felt like we were living in Greenland! That the sea (it used to be a sea, now technically a huge lake) was actually frozen is an occurrence which almost never happens! A lighthouse with a frozen sea around, a good summary of what that week felt like. So of course I had to fly the drone ;)
