I'm sure you know what Suma is about. You could say it in English sum, and then it's an elementary arithmetical problem, the total amount of something that exists. 

Suma system is divided in two equal parts, displayed side by side. Symbolic surface areas are given the exact same quantity of resources, just look at the numbers. But they don't appear to be alike or identical.  Differing points of advantage or disadvantage are highlighted by structural glowing barrier. Constant challenging movements are fixing the system, striving to achieve equilibrium. 

Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced.

In the song *Heaven* by Talking Heads, heaven is depicted as a bar that everyone is trying to find; a perfect place where they are always playing your favorite song, over and over again *ad nauseam*. A place where nothing ever really happens and everyone leaves at the same time. In this sarcastic take on bliss, the idea that perfection is static and attainable ultimately makes it a boring, misguided goal. 

This collection is an expression of finding beauty and hope in this in-between state where things arent quite perfect.

Crisp rectangles at slight angles give the compositions a feeling of potential energy and implied movement that provoke the viewer to shift their perception or assumption of what is desirable or ideal. The impact of any individual element is amplified by creating a tension in how they interact with another. It also uses texture to extend this embrace of imperfection, adding a component of wear that gives them an added dimension of age and character.

Fuga a Tientas on Verse, 2023, explores how its form of writing, namely coding, can be conceived as a form of sketching, or how unexpected shapes and colours emerge from simple geometric operations when imperfect repetition is celebrated. The artworks are fully composed by horizontal lines and simple shapes travelling through imperfect flow fields, offering a characteristically bright and cheerful aesthetic that is homage to both Erik Satie and Enric Miralless intellectual legacies. Fuga a Tientas is the coming-of-age of the Enfantines (fxhash, 2022) algorithm, still childlike but now a more sophisticated and yet imperfect exploration of form and counterform, sound and colour.

One of Erik Saties infrequent excursions into chamber music, the *Fugue  ttons* (1913) is 
contemporary to his humorous piano compositions, and created in a similar spirit. *Fugue  
ttons* is a satirical reinvention of Baroque musical forms, enhanced by Saties characteristic witty 
titles and performance directions. A repetitive, childlike theme, a loosely woven fugue initiated by 
the piano with silly but convenient navet, and yet a complex and significant musical piece.

Curiously, Spanish architect Enric Miralles used the title *Fuga a tientas* (the Spanish translation of 
Erik Saties title) in 1987, for the second volume of his doctoral dissertation, a text that was 
deemed unreadable by the thesis panel. Miralles essay narrates how sketching can be seen as a 
form of writing, a creative act that happens when thinking moves forward through interruptions, 
when it stops at its beginnings, when it is produced by repetition.

With two modes that wont produce the same outputs, *Fuga a tientas* is best experienced twice. 
In music mode, the code uses Saties fugue as a way of taming randomness, the sounds affecting 
the colours and intensities of the triangles. This is the last stop of the journey, gazing into 
unexplored lands.
