Welcome to the Fever Dream sessions.

The songs from this session have an energy that came from being pent up and isolated for over a year during lockdown, to being around each other again and playing music in the same room. And it wasn't just any room either, our friend Darrell Thorp invited us to record this 3-track session in the gorgeous rooms at The Village in LA.

After an anxious year of pandemics, covid variants, personal health scares, and all the other bad juju the quarantine era brought, this session was a perfect oasis to break the anxiety that had built up since the lockdown began.

That's why the joyous energy had us buzzing. How cool was it to be around each other again, playing music with the best people, in the best place? Hopefully, some of that good vibe comes through in the music, and that the songs will help release the feverish anxiety into joyous catharsis.

Edson Choi on the meaning behind the song:

I used to be deeply religious, doing ministries and community outreach weekly. One day, the sum of my doubts just hit me. I realized this or any religion wasn't for me.
 
I had built my life up to that point around this ideology; my friends, my community and plans for the future were centered around this faith. But to stay would be to betray myself and my new epiphany. And so, despite the comfort of belief and loving friends I made through my years in the ministry, I walked away and had to relearn thinking and how I should be living.
 
This rude awakening hit me like a punch to the gut, a blinding haymaker to the face. 
 
The song came many years after that experience, and it instead of it being a bitter takedown of faith and belief, I hope it highlights the beauty in the flaws of our world now. I hope it gives the energy of appreciating the beauty of our world and this life here, not a distant heaven. I tried to capture this thought with the song's closing lines:
 
"I'm just staring at too many stars againdon't judge me, cause we're all gonna go sometime."

Religion's Epitome

I grew up in the church. I learned the rules, the christian lingo, the do"s and don"ts, ALL OF IT. As i"ve aged, i"ve come to believe love is what matters, not a set of religious rules that we must all abide by. I am not spreading hate towards any religion, i"m only shining a light on my experience with it. This song is hard for me to write and release... i"m clueless as to what my family will think of it and how they might see me for it. I"m just sick of watching religion breed hate and, equally so, all the hate people have towards religion. There is such a massive divide in the world and we forget we are all one. I hope you all can take time to truly listen to the lyrics. This is exclusively on sound.xyz for the next week!

Chapter 1 of my journey into web 3 began with three small batch editions of Music NFTs. If you"re a holder of this NFT it most likely means you joined me during that time, so welcome aboard. This is a collectors item and represents a moment in my personal web 3 history. 

The medley you hear starts with "Meet Me On The Lake" - my first ever Music NFT, 10 editions and a national radio debut on BBC Radio Scotland. Next comes "Low Light" a small, peaceful song from 2020 which found its way into many hearts on Twitter space performances and was subsequently dropped as 20 editions. Finally, this trilogy of tracks is completed by "In The Smoke", my genesis drop on SoundXYZ.

It all started when I picked up my fathers guitar and taught myself how to play some chords on Youtube. That moment alone led to me writing original songs and finding my true identity.

After making it to Top 200 on American Idol but later getting rejected, I found the courage shortly after to drop myself out of University and make the 14hr drive to Music City aka Nashville, TN, where I found my calling. I knew when my windshield met the Batman building in the skyline, thats where I was meant to chase my dreams.

As a Cuban-American singer/songwriter, my purpose is to represent the Hispanic culture in Modern Country. I didnt see any other artist filling those boots so I saw that as a great opportunity to start a movement and bring awareness to the genre by combining my love for Latin music and the storytelling element of Country Music. 

After 13 years of writing thousands of songs, working with many other writers and even being signed and dropped by Sony Music in 2017, I continued strumming along and found some hope on Spotify and TikTok. I dropped by debut album Oct 2021 and found some success on TikTok and Instagram Reels, gaining over 40M independent music streams and over 100M video impressions in under 2 years. This led to nationwide tours, incredible brand partnerships and way more

In Nov 2021, I was introduced to web3 and NFTs by a close friend from back home in Miami, FL. Little did I know, this introduction was gonna change my career and my life forever. Since starting my NFT journey, we have sold over 6500 Music NFTs and proudly stand as the founder of 3 Music NFT collections -  METAGIRL, Pulse Pass & PIXELATED. These were all released on my own smart contracts and were organically minted via Twitter Spaces and rigorous hours connecting with the community on Discord. 

My genesis drop on Sound is WTH (What The Hell). This song was inspired by stubborn love and chasing someone knowing that its only gonna end in heartbreak. 

As someone that considers himself a hopeless romantic, this song definitely means so much to me. I look forward to releasing this one out in the world and hope it resonates with other hopeless romantics hopelessly loving someone as they hear this song.

Memories

I wrote Memories (Teri yaad) to try and capture my favourite memories. I had a conversation with my wife recently, and she spoke about the time she scribbled on the 4 walls she grew up in, the horse rides by the beach she had with her grand mom right by her side making sure she did not fall off. My memories with my father and mother.. I felt I should just sing about them. So I just pictured myself sitting on a cliff looking at the stars, counting the light in the fullest moon, reminded of these times. 

In the second verse in my language, Hindi, I wonder how sometimes I miss certain people so much in my life, to the point that sometimes i find trouble sleeping, just missing them, or I am afraid for their health. What i would do when these people will not be around anymore? I guess i"d try my best put them back together with my thoughts and emotions, mentally trying to picture them and kind of make them real. But it never works right? Even if i had a thousand years, they would just be a memory. 
In my heart and my mind, I know. You and everyone and everything else will just be a memory.

Emotions

Emotions explores the complex push and pull dynamics that can sometimes exist in relationships. If everything isnt perfect, should I leave? Or do I love you or this so much, maybe more than myself, that I am willing stay and tolerate less than I deserve? Weve all been here.

Healing is my Superpower and Music is my weapon. You probably know me best for T-Shirt and Impossible. Ive written songs that you know, for and with major artists like Bruno Mars, Pitbull and Rihanna but I also write for myself. I got sick and tired of feeling like a slave at Universal so here I am in web3 banking on myself and building with my supporters and other like-minded Creatives. I wrote Emotions years ago, in the midst of battling myself in a war of Passion. I fell deeply in love with someone who couldnt truly be mine. A wild love. I struggled. Is this a conflict worth battling? Or simply just the Universes funny way of making sure I never take love for granted? I couldnt figure it out. So I wrote a song instead.

This was supposed to be a Fetty Wap collab and I wrote his parts. Never happened since sadly hes locked up. So what you hear in the bridge is actually me modulating my voice to reflect his style and cadence. Rarely do I share the behind the scenes stories and process of my art or how I approach writing for others. Humbly letting you in. A moment in my life shared with the people who ride with me the hardest. Youll be the only people EVER to own this version of Emotions.

The artwork was created by me. Kinda. I know many talented visual artists, but I wanted to try an experiment. The artwork including the Golden Egg, was created by AI, prompted by images of me and the lyrics of the song. I wanted to experiment to see what my words and feelings would inspire. So the art is truly unique and specific to Emotions. Its also the 1st AI art I ever created.
