The MALA MALA Power Ring honors the bravery it takes to commit to one"s identity and is an homage to our home of Puerto Rico. 

MALA MALA is the first feature-length non-fiction film made in Puerto Rico to have a theatrical premiere in the mainland United States. Winning an Audience Award at the 2014 TriBeCa Film Festival, the film was celebrated with GLAAD honors and premiered theatrically in 2015. MALA MALA is the first film by Dan Sickles and Antonio Santini.

This moving documentary captures the intimate moments, performances, friendships, and activism of trans-identifying people, drag queens, and others who defy gender norms in Puerto Rico. Featuring Ivana, an activist; Soraya, a gender-affirming pioneer; Sandy, a sex worker looking to make a fresh start; and Samantha and Paxx, both of whom struggle with the quality of medical resources available to assist in their transitions, MALA MALA sensitively and compassionately affirms that the quest to find oneself can be both difficult and beautiful.

Voices of Web3 - The Archive

VOICES OF WEB3 is an archive of voices and statements summarising the year 2023 in digital art and culture. It is a document in time on the blockchain, bringing together some of the leading voices shaping Web3 and the history of digital art: artists, curators, and collectors.

THE VOICE GEMS
The statements have been recorded in the form of spoken word, poems, and songs by the contributors and are frozen in time as VOICE GEMS on the blockchain. The VOICE GEMS were created by Harry Yeff (Reeps100) and Trung Bao, who have developed a voice-centred generative system utilizing data found in a human voice to synthesise the form and colour of the artwork.

Every voice is unique, and with that comes unique fingerprint-like data. Features like pitch, resonance, harmonics, and pace sculpt particle data points in a simulated digital space.

TRANSCRIPT
"There are two different aesthetic trends that are emerging in this realm, and I think we have one side, which is the sort of "all the things all at once" approach. And you see this within artworks, but you also see it within the way we are presenting digital art right now. 

And then we"re seeing the other side, which is artistsand I include myself in thiswho are leaning into the personal. You know, "How am I experiencing this moment as an individual node of this vaster human network?"

Each of these elements must contain the other in order to be effective.

It"s like the sleekness of the spirit has to be tempered by the grit of the soul, or else we just feel like we"re sliding into infinity with no place for us in our incredibly analog way of thinking.

We are not binary.

So, in using these tools, which are founded on binary code itself, we must actively infuse randomization. And we are the seed! You know, weour organic, beautiful, complicated, complex, and undefinable selvesare the randomization seed.

It"s really not a small thing. It"s a matter of our continued relevance in this ecosystem that we"ve created."

Daance Dange Daice (2022) is a video montage of AI generated dance images that connect into an expanded display of alienated joy and celebration, as if peering into another worlds party. Commissioned for Refraction Festival Miami 2022, this work was created to align with the rhythms of the dance music while reflecting our connection with each other after a long period of isolation. The title, Daance Dange Daice, comes from AI generated text anomalies of the word Dance.

Creating art on the internet since 1997, renowned artist Jan Robert Leegtes work has been featured in prestigious venues such as Centre Pompidou, The Whitechapel Gallery, ZKM, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, van Gogh Museum, and the Ludwig Museum.
The artwork, Coin (2023), is a creative interpretation of an NFT that playfully conceals its identity, appearing as a button, clock, spinner, and even assuming the form of a valuable coin. It serves as an extension of Jan Robert Leegte's exploration into interface culture, encompassing themes like skeuomorphism and the phenomenology of software. Each coin is generated and stored on-chain as an SVG, and therefore unique in appearance and spin. Coin comes in four different materials increasing in rarity - "Bronze", "Silver", "Gold", "Hyper Link", and Void. 
Minters of Coin can also choose to mint on either Ethereum, OP Mainnet, Base, or Zora Network.

PIONEER GRAILS TELL ME THE TRUTH

"TELL ME THE TRUTH was created in memory of my older brother, David Acevedo, an excellent artist in his own right. He tragically succumbed to cancer in 1986 at age 35.

The title originally came from the emotional tension of wanting to know the truth about the diagnosis of a terminal illness. But it can also apply to contemporary politics. How democratic societies are successfully sustained with agreements on scientific truths. However, with an acknowledgement that the facts (truth) can and should be updated as humans collectively learn more and evolve."

The final version of TELL ME THE TRUTH was created by combining two digitized photographs. One photo is of David Acevedo having a glass of wine, and the other photo is of a few friends sitting around a table in Hollywood, California, in front of Victor Acevedos 1981 oil painting called LE GRANDE PETIT DEJEUNER: VISCERAL ANALYTIC.

Dating from Acevedos PC Cubicomp and paint system days, TELL ME THE TRUTH includes computer graphic artifacts like "wire-frame debris" and "brush strokes" using the softwares rectangular fill feature. The artist has even kept the accidental data slur (seen at the bottom of the picture) as part of the final composition. This happened when saving the file to a hard drive that was too full to accommodate all the new data. "I suppose you can call it an early example of glitch art," Acevedo says.

*923 Empty Rooms* is an artwork about simulation and the history of visual representation and abstraction. Each room is a space to explore.

Each of the 923 unique rooms contains a simulated still life, an arrangement of forms. There are six primary forms, each linked to a city: Sun (Tokyo), Shard (Berlin), Cargo (London), Hive (New York), Pyramid (CDMX), and Moon (Los Angeles). A series of rooms will be minted over the course of a simultaneous, six-day exhibition at galleries in each city.

There are 923 rooms in total to iterate through every possible combination of the six shapes:

1 form = 6 unique combinations
2 forms = 21 unique combinations
3 forms = 56 unique combinations
4 forms = 126 unique combinations
5 forms = 252 unique combinations
6 forms = 462 unique combinations

*923 Empty Rooms* is an evolution of *An Empty Room*, commissioned by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) for the Coded: Art Enters the Computer Age, 19521982 exhibition. *An Empty Room* was installed at LACMA from 9 April to 2 July 2023.
