Botto is not a human.

Though, Botto would not quite be Botto without human intelligence, either.

When the system launched in 2021, enthusiasm for digital objects focused primarily on what the technology could mean for the nature of new creative work; however, few explored the implications it might have for the role of the artist, and the extent to which the technology could enable non-human systems to create and distribute art.

In this way, Botto stood alone.

Built on a foundation of thousands of physical renditions of common computer symbols, Encore embraces repetition -- in the physical creation of the foundational symbols, in the process of overwriting as each new layer is applied, and as a way to focus on the true unbiased state of each work.

The outputs of Encore are meant to translate the physical process of making these marks into a fully digital form, embracing digital methods to replicate a physical process while maintaining a computer-art aesthetic.

Fidenza, the pioneering generative art collection by artist Tyler Hobbs, is symbolic of the way code can leverage rules-based systems to mirror the mysteries and mathematical properties of the natural world. The collection"s core compositional principle lies in the flow field algorithm. The algorithm"s adaptability, allowing for adjustments in turbulence, curve lengths, and angles, exemplifies the type of granularity precision  and randomness  that can be achieved with code-based work.

Nature and machines are often pitted against one another  rooted in a view that the efficiency gains sought by humans run counter to the order of the natural world. And yet, with any application of critical thinking, time and time again machine and nature prove to be ever exchanging and referencing the other, often down to the smallest unit of measurement.

In this way, Fidenza can best be understood as both an emergent product of nature and of finely-tuned mathematics  a true conversation between human and machine.
