TyBass is a founding member of NXGN CBNT a collective of creatives based in New York with in house original music, production, multi media and art, mostly known our work with MeLoX and impact in the underground NYC music scene. 

A major source of his inspiration for his music is his Caribbean background and experience coming up in New York the foundation of Hip Hop. With my parents being of Tanzanian and South African descent, we found a lot of commonalities in our upbringing and musical tastes. 

DJ Mutaal is a record producer and engineer hailing from Jamaica!

This song is a perfect example of why nothing created is ever useless. Pieced together from 4 different songs I created over the past 3 years. Lyrics that never felt connected, spliced and crafted to make what I had tried to accomplish with each song made. Production elements from songs I have released, and songs I haven"t.

This one is incredibly special to me.

Trying to explain the meaning behind it would only be doing it a disservice, but what I will say is that in life you are often given a choice and those are what make or break us. Time and happenings make those choices harder for some, and for a long time I chose wrong. I don"t want to die young.

I'm always happy when DJs play my music but it's also a strange feeling to see someone getting paid a 5 figures fee when none of the producers who made the music they play get compensated for their work. Of course, curation is important. DJing is a creative practice and requires skills & talent, but 99% of the time the DJ gets most of the light while the producers don't even get mentioned (and almost never get paid). This Sound.xyz drop is an experiment to see how web3 can help change this. 

I started by going through all of the catalog.works and nina.protocol records, to find tracks I thought would work from producers who had already been onboarded to web3 platforms. I also asked on twitter for new music. Then I recorded the mix on Ableton while traveling between Warsaw and Paris (played live in both cities and that felt like my life was given back to me!) - When that was done, I made a tracklist with the usual data + ETH wallet addresses and twitter handles. Once we've sold all editions of the DJ set, each producer will automatically receive 5.71% of the sales, while I'll get 15% for the curation, and FWB 5% for helping out with making this happen

I hope this can be replicated, and that it can help rethink the relationship between DJs and producers as an interdependent one, instead of just a transactional one. Community is key to the survival of healthy and creative scenes, local and global.

Hold me is about the complexity of emerging yourself in something that can be bad for you whether that is music, love, social media. Its the feeling of wanting to hold on even when something could hurt you .. and that in doing so it makes it even more desirable. 

I like to put my life in my music to make it me, being myself is the one thing I can count on to make me different.. and in doing so I hope we connect through my music.

I don"t know where this will take me or what will influence me next and that"s exciting... Music as an experience should be fluid and lead you down new paths. I don"t want to fit in a box.

I always thought I knew how to go about loving something, whether it was a person, a thing, an experience or myself. Time and time again, I am shown that that love is not what I was taught or know it to be. 

I am always thankful for any moment that shows me just how little I know, especially when it comes to the things I have always believed to be true. In my brief time away, I have had many of those moments, and that's where this song comes from. A special person, a tough situation, the feelings of love, pain, loss and gain all combined into a beautiful and heavy moment.

This is about knowing that what you want is to love, but never being able to get it right.

"Crashing" is the instrumental of my single "Again" w/ Juliana Chahayed, released Aug. 12th via Friends of Friends. The two songs were released as a double single as the lead for my upcoming EP "Always Less". 

I started on "Crashing" somewhere around a year ago while in the midst of a major identity crisis regarding my music, and abandoned it when I wasn"t able to confidently flesh it out. Almost a year later, Juliana and I got in touch, and right away I knew I had the idea for her. I sent her what was then the demo version of "Crashing" and she quickly sent me back a vocal idea which instantly inspired and excited me. There"s not a lot of vocalists I connect with or enjoy the sound of, but her voice so flawlessly fit over the instrumental, and I knew that was all that I was missing. 

Once the process began of finishing the song with Juliana"s vocals, the instrumental came together much more naturally. Having that inspiration and foundation of the vocal layers really helped me see it through. I"m extremely proud of this instrumental which so vividly conveys the calm essence I wanted to communicate when first beginning the instrumental a year ago.
