I've been making a lot of soul and r&b, but started hitting a wall. I was like, I'm angry. I can't do this. I'm too distracted. I'm too in my own head, so I wanted to make something aggressive to get my energy out. Every artist has that feeling of the cloud hanging over them like, You have to do this. You have to do that, says DEEGAN. 

I mostly only write good songs when I'm either really fucking mad or really fucking sad, Mija chimes in with encouraging affirmation.

AZURE is the fourth song on my EP FAITH. It is the complete, uncut version of a song that my listeners might be familiar with - originally called "testdrive.wav".

AZURE feels like a firework being launched into an intense explosion in the sky, lighting it up on a dark, cold night. Ever since my first EP APOTHEOSIS, I wanted to bring back this kind of energetic feeling in one of my songs, and AZURE incorporates it perfectly.

In this song you'll find soothing voices hypnotizing you with ancient chants, a mellow orchestra from a distant era accompanying your soul throughout the song, and suddenly... glittery sounds and arpeggios will be exploding over syncopated drums and analog synths.

FIGHT FOR THIS

In the same vein as "u&i", this song is about the struggles of a relationship between two people wanting to fight for each other, but not being be able to fight for the right reasons at the right time. I've experienced this many times before, both sides, being the fighter and the person that someone is fighting for. 

Each side has things that are hard to handle and even harder to do, but this song is from the perspective of a fighter who wants to be fought for, while simultaneously understanding that sometimes a fight isn't necessary.

In writing this song, this description and just in general, I've realised that the word "fight" is one often associated with negativity, with pain, survival and violence, be it towards others, or yourself. But I choose to see it in the light I want it to be in, which is trying your best to make sure the reality you want, with someone you love, can come to life with enough effort, time, patience and fight.
