Tangible Pixels: Symbolic Fruit

We often think of digital art as this ethereal thing, 

code and pixels floating around 

with no grounding in the real world. 

But the more I work with this medium, 

the more I find a surprising tangibility in my pixels

and in the act of coding itself.

Watching a DVD logo bounce around a tv, our inclination is to predict where it will go. There is a well-defined process of particle and boundary that makes this possible. But what if the particle and boundary were the same? If there was no distinction, if a point could reflect against its own history, if a ray could change its conditions as it experiences them? If light could interact with itself and countless others simultaneously in a fractalized infinity, shaped by time, giving structure to time itselfwhere might it end up?

**Descent**

Mostly downwards, mostly gray. 

Descent is an attempt to represent depth using only characters from the code page 437 (CP437 for short, or extended ASCII).  
The viewer is taken on an infinite journey along a column made of characters; the characters lose their original meaning and become shapes, structure.

Some visual settings can be set or changed through URL parameters; especially values for scale and fps will help adapt the project to different display sizes by adjusting character height and playback speed.

## About
Topology is a joyful exploration into sound synthesis and visual music. It is also part of my long term exploration into additive synthesis and using the GPU to generate complex sounds and music with code.

The self-playing system operates on a set of parameters derived from the hash string associated with each unique piece. This information is represented as two shapes which are examined by points on their edges and the line forming between them. The same examination happens in both 2D and auditory space, creating a close mapping between the two.

## Interactions: 
- tap to toggle audio
- double tap to toggle orientation-mode
- tap and hold to cycle play-modes

## Technical
All sounds are procedurally generated and arranged with GPU code. Reverb, delay and compression is added via the WebAudio API. The renderer tries to render at full resolution, but gracefully drops fidelity until finding a stable FPS.

A collaborative piece between Z Hovak x loudsqueak. We were both fans and collectors of each-others work and decided to make a collaboration to blend our styles together.
