Absolution

There isn't a specific message I intend to convey through my art. I craft my art within the context of a self-constructed narrative, an invented storyline. In this creative process, I employ various elements and a diverse array of tools to build layers. The resulting artwork is meant for enjoyment, inviting viewers to sit in front of it and contemplate. Stepping into the image signifies entering another world, temporarily disconnecting from the routine of everyday life.

The broader narrative surrounding "Absolution" serves as an additional layer of meaning within the artwork. I'm not seeking to preach or dictate a particular point of view. Instead, I aim to present what I've encountered on this creative journeywords and images that provide contemporary commentary. These reflections stem from the perspective of an artist navigating a world filled with AI-generated images and a parent raising children in a world rife with conflicts, where distinctions between right and wrong are muddied by the prevalence of misinformation. As a human being, I'm concerned about the myriad challenges I encounter daily, but I'm also filled with hope in the potential and creativity of the younger generation and in the beauty that humanity is still capable of creating.

Third in my series of abstracts based on in-game screengrabs. Each piece has the title of the game its based on, this one is from the popular 3D platform game featuring a blue hedgehog in space. 

I process the game avatar until it dissolves into abstraction, while trying to keep some impression of the original. I"m interested in exploring the visceral attraction of game technology. I spent many hours obliterating myself in games and these worlds and characters still fascinate. 

The image starts as a screengrab. I atomise it, filtering the image down to various coloured dots. I extrude the dots into a 3rd dimension using a light distribution mesh. Then layer multiple extrusions over each other. The original game shot is used as background and the atoms in the foreground. Finally I run it through an AI, giving a painterly warp to details.

Trying to build a new economy while speculators and cheats try to profit before it is finished. Lucky for the artists we can still create despite the fire that rages. To the creation of 2023!

SHA-256 fingerprints are human fingerprints hiding an hexadecimal tattoo. This series is about the human transition from the physical world to the digital world. It is also about the convergence of the 2 worlds: the 4 digits tattooed on each fingerprint are also the start of the SHA-256 hash of each image.
