Reflection introduces a new direction in machine creativity and generative art that the artist Pindar Van Arman calls 'Reflective AI.' How can generative AI art transcend algorithmic determinism and achieve pure emergence? The Reflective AI system leverages feedback loops and multimodal mark-making, reflecting on the canvas in realtime. Over the course of thousands of marks, Reflection thinks by doing in an attempt to present a synthetic embodiment of a creative thought process.

The digital component of Reflection is built with a unique long-form generative approach that utilizes inputs from the physical canvas. The system captures stages of the painting process, translates them to a digital format, and composes them on mint. All artworks are 100% on-chain.

Reflection seeks to show that generative art can embody true emergence, on-chain art can be highly detailed, and AI art can touch the source of creation.

This chapter within the Auntieverse serves as a celebration of auntie culture, depicting it as positive, engaging, and enjoyable. The imagined spaces in this chapter include museum shops, restaurants, outdoor courtyards for dining, swimming pools, lecture spaces, and even a wing for painting and sculpture restoration, along with workshops.
MOMA not only functions as an art space but also as a community center specifically designed for aunties. It serves as a public space where nature meets gatherings, embodying the spirit and vibrancy of auntie culture.

Some questions that are always at the forefront of my art practice: how do my images relate to the images that precede and surround them; what expectations are we bringing to images, and how are these expectations established and reinforced; what purpose do these expectations serve and how can we interact with these expectations?

AI image generators are a fascinating new tool for exploring these questions because they create images based upon a dataset of hundreds of millions of preexisting imagery but are otherwise unfettered by the preexisting expectations of visual culture. That is, they make new images based on predictions from all the images (and image tags) that precede them. However, they are not otherwise bound by human logic or cultural codes and therefore make images that reflect these codes in surprising and often challenging ways, like a funhouse mirror. There is a beautiful collapse of category distinctions and a dynamic interplay between un-indoctrinated naivety and an appreciation of precedent.
