The Maze

The Maze is a fully in-chain generative art project that depicts a maze utilising Cubism style to represent a spatial concept into the two-dimensional canvas using different points of view. The different shapes and angles can create a sense of distress or a peaceful feeling, which speaks to the journey we all make throughout our lives.

This generative algorithm explores the geometric theme of non-intersecting line segments. In short: no two lines in this design are allowed to cross each other. By incorporating various boundaries and shapes, constraining line angles, adjusting line density and applying several other techniques, a wide range of intricate compositions is produced.

The inability to truly connect can be interpreted as a metaphor for modern day life where we are flooded with digital means of communication but often struggle or fail to connect on a deeper, interpersonal level. This project thus reflects on the paradoxical nature of our increasingly interconnected yet isolated existence.

Using the keys numbered 1 to 4, you can export high-resolution files in sizes from A1 to A4 for printing at 300 dpi.  Please be patient while the exports render. The success of the export may depend on your hardware configuration. If larger sizes fail to render, try exporting smaller sizes.

SZNS is a collection of 888 unique artworks. Each piece was created one at a time using an analogue process that combines hand drawn illustrations, pixelation, glitch, sound & code.

Inspired by traditional Japanese suibokuga paintings, ukiyo-e prints, and Chinese shanshui hua paintings, SZNS blends elements of these traditional Eastern art forms with cutting-edge digital techniques. 

SZNS was meticulously curated, with only 888 out of over 8,000 original pieces selected for the final collection. 

SZNS features 11 "SZNS of the mind," 45 character types, 150 kinds of sound, and 300+ landscapes. Additionally, several true one-of-one pieces featuring characters that only appear once are included in the collection.
