I Should Be Alone Right Now (ft. Kevin Garrett)

In April of 2020, separated by an ocean and 3000 miles, both of us went into self-isolation. Physically, of course -- like everyone else. But also musically.

Turning inwards, we scoured the Refs instrumental vault for our most menacing, introverted and brooding soundscapes -- and proceeded to write 12 songs in 12 days. 2 years later, we offer up our debut album, "New Religion".			

Our song "I Should Be Alone Right Now" featuring our friend Kevin Garrett mirrors the calm-before-the-storm state of the world circa April 2020. In some ways, it holds even more water now, in light of ever-present systemic and cultural decline.		

The animated image we chose for artwork is a taste of an unreleased "New-Religion" themed collectable project. Owners of "I Should Be Alone Right Now" NFTs will get a sneak peak of what"s to come.

Im Glassface. Ive been creating music my entire life. Ive spent the past 10 years working as a music video / commercial director and visual artist, moonlighting as a producer & songwriter for other artists. In the past few years Ive come to realize the importance of sharing my music with the world, putting my head down to finish some of the myriad of demos I have in the vault. Putting everything into the music. In the past 3 months, Ive released 3 new songs with accompanying visuals. Theres No Other One is my 4th release this year, and is truly special to me. Oh, and Im just getting started.

Theres No Other One is a mix of some of my favorite things. Produced by Matti Free and me, we brought together live guitar and drums, pitched toms, analog synths under a cutting vocal. Minimal 80s-inspired pop rock leading into a crescendo of maximalist electronic production.

Nodding to favorite artists of mine including Daft Punk and Francis & The Lights - the song is an amalgamation of influences. Its really important to me to make the music that I want to hear. Lyrically, its about a moment of clarity - that feeling when everything comes together and makes sense. A somber night drive of self-discovery. The electricity you feel after a life-affirming realization. Disguised as a love song, Id say Theres No Other One is more of a self-love song. When I realized I was the only one who could accomplish my dreams, it empowered me, and I knew I was unstoppable. Its about staying the course and letting that feeling be a North Star. I really believe in what Im doing. This song is for anyone who has had that realization that they are that one.

Like most of Lil Bubble"s catalogue, "Dump" is a song about recent market events and the current climate of the crypto space. Every day"s the same, wake up and I check, if the FED gon" pivot, is over? Cos I"m rekt. Production also by Lil Bubble.

Lil Bubble is a Web3-native musician & degenerate moon boy. The satirical character was born in 2019 with the release of crypto-themed parody songs like All Time Lows, When Moon, Liquidated and Never Ever (Selling Back To Tether).

The singing spacemans music videos have since amassed over 8 million views and led to performances at Blockshow Asia, Binance Blockchain Week Paris, NFTfest Australia and a number of industry collaborations. With a debut album on the way and plans to build a whole swag of experiences in the metaverse, the Lil Bubble character is set for expansion into the realm of possibilities we call Web3. Sometimes, as artists, and simply as people, we go through periods where nothing we create feels quite right. These periods normally expire within a relatively short timeframe, but can feel like an eternity. We bang our heads, over and over again, trying to find the perfect sound, paired to the exact feeling we mean to convey, and while this may seem fairly straightforward, it can feel like a truly insoluble puzzle. 

It had been a few months since I"d made a song I felt connected to, and I had been operating within said headspace throughout these months. Life just felt a bit lackluster, as it always seems to do when the one thing I care about most becomes the hardest to make; music. I"ll never know whether it was due to the personal affairs of my daily life, or something indescribable much deeper inside me, and truly I"ll never care. The reason for this is, I view these periods of dullness as essential for artists. In the same way that happiness is hard to understand without a grasp on sadness, an artist cannot create their absolute best without experiencing their worst.

Entering this mode of uncertainty always seems to be a slow trickled effect, while exiting it is usually quite sudden. Many times it"s an experience which wakes the artist up, other times it is a new song or album they hear. For me, it was a person, another music creator, who took me out of my creative hole, and helped me create this art.

I made Evil with my close friend and collaborator, Jason (JVSE). His style of music creation is extremely unique, and from the very first time we worked, I could tell my days of uncertainty within my own music creation were over. We have created quite a bit of music together, but the night we made evil, we both knew it was special. The song was unlike anything either of us had ever made, joining elements of both of our individual styles in a way we could never imagine without actually putting it on the paper. I truly believe being in the headspace I was in gave the song room to be authentically sorrowful, and Jason always understands how to create a perfectly represented production for whatever my lyrics and melody ask for. So to simplify things, evil is really a marriage between the dullest and most difficult moments in my life, and the highs and inspiring moments. Without experiencing the contrast of both, there is no evil, and truthfully, there is no lilspirit.
