Love has, and always will be the most complex and confusing emotion in all of its joy and agony. We fall in love... we believe that it will conquer all... that nothing can come between us and the person we love. But, sometimes we fall for someone who feels right for us, instead of someone who is... and we end up hurting ourselves in the process.

We make mistakes, they make mistakes, and we have no clue how to handle the challenges that come with loving someone. We stick by our person through all of their mistakes because we want to believe something that simply isn't true. Hoping for a future that won't exist.

Young love is falling for someone we believe is perfect, despite the reality. That is the blessing of it. Learning from our mistakes, and growing into ourselves. Finding our ways in which we want to love and be loved. You can stick by the person you love, but never forget to stick by yourself first. 

You are always worthy of to love, and of loving.

So Im a DJ.

My job is to make sure you"re having a good time. I select different sounds and mash them up and people actually pay me stupid money to do it.

I live for sampling. Everything is a remix.

The first time I heard D.J. Girl by Katalina was at a rave. For the next 10 years, I whole-heartedly believed that was the original song. (DJ Caffeine)

It wasnt until this year that I discovered the original and as a house-head you can imagine my excitement!

I immediately started playing it in all of my sets. I found the acapella and made an edit that felt more aligned with what I play today.

I played it out and people really liked it.

I made a TikTok and it went moderately viral (for me)

Me to myself: Hey I think I might have something big here!

Me to record labels: Hey guys do you like this song?

Record labels: [Silence]

So I made another TikTok with an updated version. And it happened again.

Cool cool cool, so I guess Im doing it on my own.

This is my version of Im With the DJ.

Im serboy. Im a musician and producer from Istanbul, Turkey. Im originally from Ankara where Joe Strummer was born (punks not dead!) and the first artist from Turkey on Sound. Its a great honor to be here!

My girlfriend introduced me to NFTs back in November 2021, so I started to study them because I had nothing else to do. I had lost my job and my home in my hometown just before the pandemic. When the first moment I understood the idea, I thought to myself we should combine this with music! And started to search for a home for my unreleased genreless tracks. Ive been writing, recording, producing, mixing all my songs since I graduated from a music production school in 2014 and before that, I spent my time learning how to make music that I dont want to :) Then I found Sound a couple weeks before Reo dropped Light Show and that was the moment I believed in Music NFTs. So glad today Im here, making amazing friends and making history with incredibly talented people all around web3 and were just getting started.

I believe songs are always here, waiting for artists to tell the story to the world with one common language, Music.
So I love to let the sounds speak to you.

Almost exactly 3 years ago, in the early spring of 2019, we were beginning to release songs from our debut album, komorebi. It was our first time releasing a full fledged record, on a major label. It was our first time releasing videos alongside our work, and our first time really diving into the whirlwind that the music industry can be. 

We always tend to create far ahead of our next release, so as we began to show komorebi and ourselves to the world, we were processing our experiences and beginning to craft what we believed to be our next release. The earliest of songs were written in hotels ranging from Berlin to the Florida panhandle. We dreamed of a sleek, groove driven record, where subtle polyrhythms gave the listener a distinct head bop. We strove to expand our manipulations of guitars beyond the licks, lines and textures wed established. For all of these inspired intentions, this record never saw the light of day, as our vision didnt seem to resonate with our team at large.

night dive is such a meaningful song to bring to sound for our first drop here. its about the frustrations of the conventional music industry, where money and metrics seem to dictate movement more than an artists vision does. its a song that details how being fresh and new in a pre-existing system can be a toxic affair and a fast ride, leaving a person confused when they get out of the proverbial car. 
its a song that wasnt able to surface back where we were, but has found a home here in web3 where art and community are valued. and for that we are very grateful

Higher started in a very unusual way for me. A very, very, unusual way. My friend Salvador Breed sent me a video of a parrot vocalising / imitating a percussive rhythm. It sounded like the parrot had been hearing drums and was imitating those sounds. But something in the rhythm immediately triggered me. It sounded like the parrot had been hearing some pretty complex rhythms, it sounded to me like it was switching between straight and triplet time in every bar. (In non technical terms, within four counts it would constantly switch between two completely different rhythmical feels.) When I heard this and realised what kind of opportunities this complexity could give, I immediately ran upstairs to my attic studio and tried imitating / reproducing the groove that I thought the parrot must have heard and was imitating / reproducing.

The triplet feel has something very non-european to it, Ive been into exploring different takes on rhythm a lot. Ive been cratedigging on Bandcamp for South American club music, and also been listening to African pop and club music quite a lot. As with every obsessive listening period I go through, its only a matter of time before this really starts translating in my output. The same influences are very clearly audible in my Ugly remix for Big Dope P and Mighty Mark, I think. Higher goes a bit further in rhythmical complexity than where I left off with Ugly. But as always, my goal with club music is not to make something that sounds complex. The complexity in the groove and the sound has to come across intuitive and immediate, thats always been the goal, both with Noisia and in my solo work.

I started it in the attic studio upstairs in my house. Then I worked on it in LA from my covid isolation room, because I wanted to play a more finished version at my Brownies and Lemonade show, which was recorded and an early version of Higher appears around the 25 minute mark: https://soundcloud.com/iamthys/thys-brownies-and-lemonade. I mixed the tune in the studio, and then worked on it in airplanes (thank god for noise cancelling headphones!) and hotels travelling to shows and holiday destinations. I finished the track in a full-on heatwave, on a laptop and headphones, in swimwear with a fan pointed at me, while on vacation in Italy :D Its got quite a story, this one!

The artwork is a collab between Shy1 (one of Amon Tobins many pseudonyms) who made the weird golden bird statue illustration, and Tom Jager, who does a lot of the art for my label Eccentric O and also does a lot of amazing work for Noisia and Vision.
