Vanitas

Vanitas draws from three previous Capsule 21 projectsnamely mememe, MaMoMe and Still Lifesbut it adds something new: address-derived compositions.

By interpreting each letter of your base-16 Ethereum address as a number 015, your 40 character address defines the coordinates of 20 points on a 16x16 grid.

In Vanistas, the three first points of this 20 are used to locate three still life elements (skull, bottle. and cigarette) in a unique composition.

Vanitas NFTs can be mined indefinitely, but the same ETH address always leads to the same colors and composition. Capsule 21 disclaims all liability for unbalanced compositions and takes the firm position that they are solely the fault and responsibility of the minting ETH address.

Edouard Manet once called still lifes 'the touchstone of painting'. Characterized by an interest in the insentient, this genre of art has been popular across movements, cultures, and periods, with major figures like Paul Czanne and Pablo Picasso. 

With the Indelibe Labs tool, an on-chain NFT collection of 600 different still lifes was generated by using about forty inanimate objects. The classic still life subjects such as apples and skulls occur, but also CryptoPunk attributes such as a VR or a burning cigarette.

Raw AI art is not a one button press process. There is research of techniques, study of artists in their evolving production to pinpoint the exact prompt that will give the desired outcome: those brush strokes, that particular lighting, that one expressive technique. It"s not a quest for "something cool", is the result of experience, taste and knowledge of the largest part possible of the whole artistic world.

Hairdressers: quest for beauty.

Once upon a time, there were two young girls named Rosa and Lily. They lived in a small village surrounded by an abandoned forest and a marshy swamp. One day at the swamp"s edge, the girls stumbled upon huge leaves of plants. Without thinking twice, Rose and Lily began to cut the plants off, wanting to take a few leaves home with them. But just as they cut the plants, they heard a loud squawking sound. And then they saw a vast toad looking at them with anger.

The girls were frightened, but the toad spoke softly to them, "Why did you cut down my plants? They are my source of beauty and magic." The girls apologized and explained that they didn"t know the plants belonged to the toad. They offered to help the toad transplant the plants and take care of them.

The toad forgave the girls and showed them how to care for the plants properly. From that day on, Rose and Lily visited the toad often and helped her take care of the plants. As they grew, the girls learned that beauty and magic can be found in the most unexpected places and that it is essential to look differently at the things we take for granted.

We can all let a little fairy tale magic into our lives if we squint our eyes and remember our childhood! Creating our fairy tales, whether through drawing, can help us explore our deepest desires and wishes.
