Seeing Voices is a new series of AI images generated by the performance Voice In My Head (https://lauren-mccarthy.com/voice-in-my-head), a collaboration with Kyle McDonald. In that performance, participants place a bud in their ear and are guided by an AI-augmented voice in their head that listens in and offers commentary. The Seeing Voices images are generated based on phrases spoken in live sessions of Voice In My Head. Each text phrase is rendered visual with a drawing, where the artist performs the role of machine interpreter.

Drawing on parallels between the 1920s avant-garde and 2020s generative art, my collection aims to create composite portraits of characters that never existed, blending Dadaism, binary code, and a grid system inspired by the Paris arrondissements, into a retro-futuristic extravaganza that transcends time and digital boundaries.

Welcome to "Kinoko Dreams," a collection of Japanese artworks inspired by my adventures in the magical world of mushroom picking in Japan.

Imagine spending weekends in the autumn, not at home, but in the forests around Tokyo with my dad's work buddies. It seemed a bit strange at first  choosing colleagues over family during free time. But in Japan, work is more than just a job; it's like a second family, a big part of social life.

Our journeys took us to places like Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park and the Okutama region, where diverse flora, including lots of mushrooms, awaited. Together, we collected these little treasures as a way to bond, relax, and shake off stress.

While picking mushrooms, my friends shared captivating stories about Japanese myths tied to these fungi. One story stood out  the Matsutake myth. It's a pine mushroom symbolizing good fortune and happiness, especially during the beautiful autumn harvest season.

We also discovered other awesome mushrooms like Shiitake, Maitake, and Enoki. Each had its own story and importance, even in Japanese cooking. Recipes were shared, making our mushroom adventures not just about picking but also about creating delicious meals together.

All these incredible memories sparked the idea to turn my experiences into art. "Kinoko Dreams" is a way to share the joy, stories, and magic of mushrooms with you. These artworks, filled with love and nostalgia, will be released during NFT Paris with Bright Moments, inviting you to join the whimsical journey of "Kinoko Dreams."

Built on a foundation of thousands of physical renditions of common computer symbols, Encore embraces repetition -- in the physical creation of the foundational symbols, in the process of overwriting as each new layer is applied, and as a way to focus on the true unbiased state of each work.

The outputs of Encore are meant to translate the physical process of making these marks into a fully digital form, embracing digital methods to replicate a physical process while maintaining a computer-art aesthetic.

"Odysseys" is all about diving into a mix of cool digital vibes and a splash of old-school storybook magic. Imagine flipping through your favorite childhood adventure book, but with a twistthere's a bit of a pixel party going on. It's like these pieces are little puzzles, maps of epic tales that happened once upon a time, captured in a single frame. Think of it as a snapshot of a whole adventure from start to finish, with every corner holding a piece of the action.

Each artwork is kind of like a treasure map or a game level that's already been played through. You can zoom into any part of the picture and spot different bits of the storymaybe a fierce battle here, a wild discovery there. It's like having a bird's-eye view of a whole world of tales, all squished into one vibrant, living scene.

The cool thing about these pieces? They're a mix of old and new. You've got pixels and glitches that might remind you of video games, mashed up with these swirly waves that could totally belong in a Van Gogh painting. But let's not stop there. Imagine those waves carrying a bit of that serene, intricate beauty you find in Japanese bybu panels or estampesthose stunning artworks that tell a story all on their own. It's this blend that's all about sparking that feeling of nostalgia, like a nod to the fun, colorful, and sometimes chaotic stories that filled our heads as kids.

I'm not trying to spell out a specific message with the digital and organic bits clashing and mingling in my work. It's more about creating something that looks cool and feels a bit nostalgic, something that makes you think of adventures and stories in a new way.

What I really hope is that when you check out these pieces, you'll start seeing your own stories in them. I've set the stage with these algorithms and designs, but it's up to you to fill in the blanks. Maybe you'll see a piece and think, "Hey, that looks like the secret forest from that game I loved," or "That totally reminds me of the pirate stories I used to dream about." Or maybe you'll catch a hint of that tranquil, detailed vibe you get from Japanese art, making the story even richer. That's the goalmaking art that's not just mine but becomes a bit of yours too.

Humans scan the surfaces of the earth, bombarding it with rays that look deep underground, hoping to find metals and treasures for extraction. The barely decipherable images returned from such scans are almost always unclear and yet tantalizing, leading people to carve off the top of entire mountains. And yet, it is the surface that holds the future, where we receive enough energy from the sun and wind to do everything we need to thrive.

These plots come from one larger scan of a hillside in the San Luis Valley of Colorado. A drone was used to take more than 400 images of the hill, and then a complex slab of silicon in a GPU turned all those images into millions of points and polygons.
