Crown of the Kings Editions

I distinctly remember that almost everything went wrong for me on that fateful day in 2019, when I set out to get this shot. It almost didn't happen. My itinerary was just so packed, that I only had one day to visit Monument Valley. 

First, my booked flight on that day was canceled due to bizarre weather in NYC. I felt my dream crushing before I could even take off. Fortunately, later that day, I was able to get into another flight as a chance passenger and arrived in Vegas at night. Without skipping a heartbeat, I rented a car and drove to Arizona but halfway through, my second strike happened - I realized my tripod was missing! 

But even the tiniest prayer works. I didnt strike out. My lifesavers were a tabletop tripod and a clamp that I had stashed in my backpack. On arriving at the location past midnight, my luck had completely turned for the better - I was greeted by the three mittens towering above the valley while the clear blue skies revealed the majestic milky way; it was a home run after all! 

And this is how my Crown of the Kings came to be. It was a difficult birthing  but one that eventually gave me one of my most favorite creations.

The first time I found myself photographing the colors in Colorado was a time when I was learning how to photograph. This trip taught me that a big part of doing photography is planning before you go out. 

I didn't research this trip, for if I did I would have arrived a week earlier, and stayed a week longer to get better fall colors and weather. But I enjoyed it and I went back the next year and got different images for I viewed the world differently.

This view is one of my favorites of the beautiful mountains of Colorado.

Colorado Country Roads

I had the privilege in August, 2022 to roadtrip to the back channels of Australia for a rare flooding event.  
For the first time in over 100 years, the amount of rain in the desert caused extreme flooding, which changed the dry landscapes to be one of life and colors. Because of the unusual rainfall. we saw an abundant amount of wildlife and vibrant colors in the soil.

Many people, including Australians, do not typically traverse this far into the Outback, even when it's dry. During this historic flooding, it is even more dangerous and not for the faint of heart traveler.

Robert Downie and I were able to make the 40+ hour drive out and back with no major incident. We may be two out of a handful of people who have documented this rare natural phenomenon.

Back Channels of Australia

On the famous black sand beaches of Iceland, there is a remarkable river of gold water that flows into the sea. 

Because of the minerals in the ground, there are also hues of red, orange, and slight green yellows. 

When I changed this image of color to black and white, I saw a sea horse within the shape of the water. So I named this piece horse in Icelandic. 

If anyone has seen Icelandic horses, they are short, long haired,  and absolutely magnificent in their wild habitats.

The Magnificent Hestur

In the north of Vietnam, where time seems to slow down and ancient traditions echo through the generations, families have mastered the art of soy sauce production  a craft that is as much about flavor as it is about preserving cultural heritage.

From its introduction by Chinese traders to today's artisanal creations, soy sauce remains indispensable, versatile, and steeped in the tradition of Vietnam. Soy sauce, traditionally made by fermenting soybeans, wheat, and salt, is now elevated with unique ingredients such as sugar, garlic, or chili peppers.

The rise of artisanal soy sauce production showcases dedication to quality and experimentation of the Vietnamese. Though pricier, these small-batch sauces are a worthy investment for those seeking unique flavors in their culinary journeys around Vietnam.

Saucy Yellow

Nestled just outside the bustling city of Hanoi, there lies a tranquil village where time seems to have paused  a place where the ancient art of basket weaving has been meticulously preserved through generations. The rhythmic dance of nimble fingers, honed by years of practice, weaves together more than just sturdy nets; they intertwine the very essence of cultural heritage and human ingenuity in Vietnam.

The impact of this craftsmanship extends beyond the village borders. These seemingly humble nets have unlocked groundbreaking scientific discoveries on a global scale, contributing to our understanding of fish migration patterns and inspiring sustainable environmental policies.

Basket Days

As the Hoi An light festival casts a radiant glow upon the night, we are reminded of the delicate balance between light and darkness, life and death. Here, the ancient and the modern intertwine, reflecting our ceaseless pursuit to illuminate the unknown. The vibrant lanterns dance in harmony with the serene surroundings, while the quiet darkness beyond whispers of mysteries untold. In this captivating scene, we find an invitation to delve deeper into our own existence, seeking the spark that ignites our souls amidst the vast tapestry of human experience

I love finding unexpected colors in nature and using them to express my minds emotions.

JRNY Magazine Series 1

JRNY Magazine was founded during the first months of the pandemic back in 2020 on the bases of supporting and pushing the arts forward during these tough times. We believed in building a community of likeminded creatives from around the globe to produce a travel magazine with a difference. Telling stories that inspire and fire up the wanderlust whilst changing the way travel journalism operates with long form writing, hi-end photography and no advertising, just pure content. Our dedication, innovation and drive to make something unique and special has been recognized within the industry when we were awarded Travel Magazine of the Year for our very first issue. 

JRNY was formed in a web2 world with a web3 mindset, we believe in the power of art, community and support and this belief system is at the core of what JRNY stands for. Because of this it made perfect sense for us to bring JRNY in to web3 and become the first travel magazine to tokenize the entire content of a physical magazine. It has been many months in the planning and we have returned to the drawing board on more than on occasion but we are here now and bringing the world of travel & destination journalism to the blockchain. It has taken longer than expected but it was imperative to us that we got this drop done correctly with the our community in mind whilst making sure we act in a responsible manner to continue to build and support creatives both in web3 and beyond. 

We thought long and hard about how to release our genesis token and finally settled on offering the community an opportunity to collect for nothing. JRNY is for the artists and we dont want anyone to be excluded from becoming part of our journey. Its our way of saying thank you for your support, sticking around during the tough times and all the work you are doing in growing and believing in the web3 space. 

By supporting JRNY Magazine you are playing an active part in helping us support creatives, via assignments, education programs and our collection fund. You will be helping build our digital content output and provide further opportunities for creatives across the board. We are dedicated to the project of bringing JRNY in to web3 and providing improved working methods and opportunities for artists to work and earn from doing what they love.

Photographer behind the image: Jordan Banks is a travel and documentary photographer from the UK whose career spans more than two decades and has won multiple awards for his work including the National Geographic Cities Photographer of the year. Jordan regularly shoots for top publications such as National Geographic, BBC, Lonely Planet & The Times as well as being the subject of Sky Arts documentaries on his photography that have been syndicated worldwide. Jordan has shot international campaigns for clients such British Airways, Microsoft, Dropbox, Panasonic and many others. Jordan's work is held in the collections of some of the worlds largest and best-known art collectors in both the traditional and digital worlds. Fur Seals are not animals you want to get close to, but they are very friendly and social creatures. Baby fur seals will fake attack you by coming up aggressively and then backing away real quick. This big guy was putting on a show for us as he kept doing back bends. 

The Antarctic Treaty was signed into effect December 1, 1959 to become the only continent with no territorial sovereignty. This was to ensure that all who came, came with peaceful purposes only, so no nuclear waste or production to be established here. This agreement also promotes international scientific cooperation in Antarctica and helps preserve the fragile balance of life.

I Wont Break by Jessica Aimee Kishner is the second collection Jessica has done under the Rock Your Socks name, but this is her first generative collection and it includes her first recorded song, I Wont Break. Jessica designed all of the artwork including the traits for the generative pieces and the one of ones. She wrote the lyrics for the song I Wont Break and writing partner Joe Seabe wrote the music. Sam Sznd is the voice that brings those lyrics to life. This collection not only celebrates Down syndrome and Jessicas individual talents, but a large portion of the proceeds from the mint will fund Jessicas Down syndrome awareness sticker campaign that gifts young students stickers designed by Jessica for Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October.
